Thingiverse veteran @henryseg's new book explains 3D ideas with 3D printers.

Visualizing Mathematics with 3D Printing is a popular math book - it explains some of the beautiful, visual parts of mathematics in an accessible, friendly way. Most of the figures in the book are photographs of 3D prints. At the sister website, readers can rotate a virtual version of a model, or order a copy from Shapeways, or follow a link to Thingiverse, to download and print a copy for themselves. The idea is that if you want to understand three-dimensional ideas, it would be better to look at three-dimensional figures instead than flat two-dimensional pictures in a book! (Why doesn't the biology textbook come with a 3D model of the structure of DNA? Or the heart?)
 
Henry selected the following 12 Things as a best matches for desktop 3D printers:

"I have put almost all of my models up for people to download from Thingiverse, because it's the best way to make them accessible. It's my hope that the Thingiverse community will make sure that as many of the models are printable on as many kinds of machine as possible as technology improves into the future. For almost all of the models in the book I used Shapeways' SLS printers, so some of the models are likely out of reach for desktop FDM printers at the moment, but many of them work just fine!"
