Does anyone know where to buy the true Prusa orange PLA, other than the Prusa website? i want to print some mods in the correct color but cant find anything that is spot on, some are close but most are not quite the right color. Any suggestions? I'm assuming that its PLA, my printer is still in shipping so I'm not 100% on that...
the zortrax filament is really close and even though it doesnt specify what size it is it is 1.75
last year i bought the "Safety Orange"-ABS from Prusa and i can confirm that this is the original "Prusa orange color".
He writes "... Proudly made in Czech Republic from high quality Styron Magnum resin. ..." and the only one manufacturer in cz i know is http://fillamentum.com/ - maybe try to get samples of some orange colored fillaments.
Finally on the prusa forum i found this topic:http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/alternative-source-for-the-orange-abs-t1470-s10.html#p11501
Another company from cz: http://www.filament-pm.cz/ the picture of the orange filament looks very similar to the prusa orange.http://www.filament-pm.cz/images/produkty/605835303664208
"ABS" being the keyword...
The filafarm is what I would put money on after looking at them all it is on the same spool and it comes in the larger 2.3 kg size that I see Prusa using in the "printer farm" although the filamentum looks very close as well but it has a different spool idk if that's go anything to do with it but that's what I'm thinking right now
I'm pretty sure the parts on the original MK2 are all ABS.
Well, the orange ones are, but the black ones are PET, i think (except for black printers, where the black parts are both ABS and PET, of course).
You're quite right, thanks for the correction.
If you're still looking for a suitable match, have you checked out the E3D filament that I linked to below?
What do you think?
Yeah I took a look at the e3d stuff and it looks good but I'm in the US and as far as I can tell you can't purchase anything from their online store if your not in Europe. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what it looks like to me I saw nothing about international shipping or currency conversions etc.
This is the response from e3d so it looks like US customers are good to go
In short Yes.
We ship to hundreds of US customers every day and if your order is placed before 1400 GMT and you pick FedEx priority it will normally be with you next day.

The E3D website does suggest that you can order from outside the EU, it is the last paragraph on the link below.
Though I don't know if it would be financially viable for you.http://e3d-online.com/Delivery-Information
I've bought orange filament from a bunch of vendors, and none of them have matched the Prusa exactly. Even Prusa's own orange PLA doesn't perfectly match the ABS they use on the machine. I think it's going to be very hard to find a PLA that matches the ABS exactly, because PLA and ABS intrinsically have a slightly different look.
I saw that the Prusa orange ABS was out of stock, so I ordered this from E3Dhttp://e3d-online.com/SpoolWorks/SpoolWork-ABS-Sweet-Orange17
It is a perfect match for the original printed parts on my MK2
Although I haven't ordered the PLA version, I would think it would also be identical, it's here if you're interestedhttp://e3d-online.com/SpoolWorks/SpoolWork-ABS-Sweet-Orange17
The Prusa Research support team have told me that all of the MK2 parts are printed in ABS,
Hope this helps
Well thanks for that bit of advice.
I bought some "Sweet Orange" from E3D based on your observation, guess what?
It's not a match at all.
E3D told me this in reply to an email;
"Thanks for your email.
Sweet Orange is not a direct match for the colour that Prusa uses however it is close.
Cheers for that.
I'm sorry it didn't work out for you mate.
The roll I got looks ideal to me.
If my memory served me well. I remembered I read somewhere from the internet that says they are Fillamentum ABS. Correct me if I am wrong.
Someone from Prusa told me that the "Safety Orange" ABS is indeed what they use for their parts. However, it's perpetually unavailable because they are consuming all they can get their hands on. The "Safety Orange" PLA is close, but not quite the right color. I've yet to find true "Prusa Orange" elsewhere.
This stuff looks very close to the Prusa safety orange it's called bison3d. I could not find the filamentum filament.
The "Safety Orange" PLA that Prusa ships definitely isn't the same color hue as the printer parts, in case you were looking for exactly the same color. I'm also interested in finding a source for PLA that matches their ABS(?) parts.
Yeah I would definatly like to find the same exact color and I guess abs would work but I have little to no experience with it on my old printer but I would not be opposed to trying it out if I could find that safety orange abs. I'm going to take a look at that filamentum that stevehlau mentioned
