Flashlight adapter for bicycle handlebars

PROBLEM! Your totally sweet bike does not currently emit enough light to allow you to ride in the dark without endangering yourself and/or your aformentioned totally sweet ride. What to do?

Well, there are a number of options open to you: you could hoard radium and staple it to your pedals, but that might cause things to glow in situations where it's not appropriate (for instance, secret missions). Glow sticks can be tough to find in a pinch, and taste horrible. Purpose-built bicycle headlamps can cost an arm and a leg and aren't really useful outside of bicycle-bound illumination.

In an effort to redress all of this, I've created an adapter that allows you to attach a small flashlight to the handlebars of your very own bicycle. Get a good standalone flashlight, and attach it to your bike only when you need a light! I use a 4sevens Quark Mini 123, but practically any small flashlight should fit.

This thing prints just fine without support, even if the geometry looks a little weird.

I printed with PLA but only because my supply of ABS not yet come in. "Evo bar mount.stl" is just a re-upload from the EVO multifunctional mount design. No changes were made but I included them here for easier access.

I tested them out on a short ride and this quick design worked surprisingly well using PLA plastic.
The mounting hardware for the light allows it to mount on the seat post, but then it will be covered by anything on the rack. It can be mounted on one of the support struts for the rack, but then it is quite low, and often gets knocked out of alignment.

The ideal place to mount is on the rack itself, which has a fitting for a mini license plate.

This object is an adapter for the bike light, that bolts onto the license plate fitting, and still has a functioning quick release for the light.

The OpenSCAD file is broken out into modules, so if you have a Planet Bike light set, you can re-use the mounting bracket and release lever and make your own custom light mountings!

alpha parts of three speed bicycle hub

This is an attempt to create an internally geared bicycle hub, based on the Sturmey Archer A-3 design from 1914. Because the schematics are so old, I am 99.9% sure that copyright has expired and that they are now public domain. It is very alpha quality. I have no way to test making it so I don't know if the files work. I also haven't drawn all the parts; I've run out of time so here is an upload of what I have so far. Theoretically the gears should at least mesh and spin, if you put the axle, the planetary gears and the ring gears together.

Why create it then? To test certain questions:
1. Can you make complicated stuff in openscad?
2. Are there interesting old designs that are not only patent-expired, but copyright expired? (early 20th century stuff)?
3. Can plastic prototype hubs help the understanding & design of a real metal hub?
4. Can public domain parts files help with re-use?

This project uses a modified form of the following public domain project:

Parametric Involute Spur Gear by Leemon Baird, 2011,
thingiverse.com/thing:5505

Old Sturmey Archer hub design schematics can be found here:
sturmey-archerheritage.com/index.php?page=history&type=technic&era=1

Cornell University has a great guide to Copyright and the Public Domain, discussing the expiration dates for copyright. It is here:
