Or perhaps a tablet PC that you love to carry around but lack the hardware to keep it upright when surfing the web or reading an e-book? Look no further! This elegantly designed tablet stand is the ideal solution.

The simplicity of its design gains inspiration from three identically-sized spheres that encircle a central sphere to produce a sturdy stand. The material is made out of durable ivory-gloss polyurethane with soft rubber protrusions that act as "grips" to keep your iPad or tablet PC in place.

The set comes with two sphericals that can be positioned anywhere on the tablet's base in either the vertical or horizontal position, whichever best suites your needs.

I’ve also noticed that it’s easy to accidentally rub the microphone and mess up the audio during recording. Because I have a couple holiday concerts coming up that I’ve been asked to record I thought it would be worth figuring out a better way to tackle this problem.

I started with my iPhone Tripod attachment and added the new features I was looking for. First I modeled a handle long enough to hold comfortable, but short enough to carry in your pocket. Then I removed the tripod nut hole and added a slot for the handle to slide into. I also added a slot in the handle and a tab on the camera mount so the two parts slide together for easy transport in your pocket or bag.

I wanted a mount that could work in any car, so the lighter socket was an obvious choice. It also eliminates the need to carry a separate charger and cable. It holds the phone quite firmly without blocking access to any of the connectors, switches or buttons on the phone.

All of the SCAD files are included, so it shouldn't be hard to adapt the design to different phone cases, or for no case at all.

NOTE: The design calls for a switching regulator available from Gravitech. While this part is a pin-compatible replacement for the LM7805, it is a switching regulator and this is very important. The iPhone can draw up to 1A, and the 7805 linear regulator would be dissipating close to 8W, so it is important to use a switching regulator.
I'm new to openscad, so surely a few hundred things could be done better, and I'm willing to learn so I welcome any feedback.

This utilizes the roundedRect function (with modifications) - thingiverse.com/thing:9347 - by WilliamAAdams.

The model inserted into an openscad iphone dock - thingiverse.com/thing:10270 - by jag is shown in one of the images. This shows how you use the model to see if you block any of the phone's features with your design.

Planned improvements:
- setting the color as parameter - to be fixed. Current color RGB[.4,.4,.4] - the 3 screen shots were done before the color was set, so they are the default yellow - DONE
- Getting suggestions and acting on them... :)

The iPhone is copyright of Apple inc. and this design should not be reproduced for any other purpose than allowed by law on copyright and design rights.
Please see: developer.apple.com/resources/cases/ which is the source of the drawing used.

iPhone 4 Tripod Mount

Over the weekend I stumbled upon this awesome Instructable by jtsubota "iPhone 4 Tripod Mount".
instructables.com/id/iPhone-4-Tripod-Mount-1/

The parts list was short and I decided to try to pick up all the required parts after work Monday night. Unfortunately for me, my local hardware store was missing a handful of the (already short) parts list. I almost gave up and was prepared to head home empty handed when I realized I could easily modify the project using my Makerbot and make this work with what I was able to find.

Here is the parts list:
1/4 inch hex nuts
30mm suction cups

Rather than secure all the parts in place using screws like jtsubota did I modeled everything to press fit in place. The nut fits in very snuggly and the suction cups snap into place with a firm push. Once everything is attached it feels really solid. So much so that I can shake my phone by the tripod mount without fear of it disconnecting.

If my calculations are correct, I believe the cost of this project breaks down like this:

1x 1/4" nut $0.40
2x 30mm suction cups $0.59 each
~$0.50 woth of Makerbot plastic.

Right around $2 for a really solid tripod mount ready to be printed on demand. Not bad at all!

If you'd like to see more pictures of the project I've included a few more in my blog post here:
This was a nice mount for iphones and ipods in that it came with a bunch of attachable adapters that would make your iphone, ipod, whanot, fit.

However, they had no such mount for an iphone4 (and indeed this device is no longer available from griffin.)

Instead of buying the latest and greatest they had I decided to just design and print an adapter that would fit and that would hold my iphone 4 nicel.

So I modeled up this dummy plug which I modeled off of a 3.5mm TRS(3 pin) Male ipod headphone connector.

I tested this in my iphone, ipod, and computer headphone jacks and it worked in all of them.

Due to their small size it would be a good idea to print multiples of these at one time to give each a chance to cool more before the next layer is added. I was able to print these without using a raft and used the multiple function in skeinforge to print 6-8 out at a time.
I needed to make it fit a slightly thicker case and didn't want to boot into windows to mess with the old Alibre file...

I also used my dovetail modules ( thingiverse.com/thing:10269 ) to make versions that have dovetails so that they can join together for if you have more than one iPhone 4 in your family.

The dovetails aren't terribly sturdy since they are rather small but I mostly wanted them to stop the docks from pivoting without having to add another screw to them.
