This is a toy safe that I designed for my nephew Derek. Seeing as young Derek is a bit of an escape artist, I thought that he might enjoy learning how locks work, so this safe comes with a working lock, and lockpicks designed to work with this safe (so that he can apply his new knowledge of lock mechanisms).

Note: there is a second set of pins available for download, with 8mm diameter. These may require some sanding down to get close tolerance in the holes. I added these because the original 7mm diameter pins sometimes skewed and jammed in the tumbler.

Admittedly, there is some room for improvement, but considering it's a prototype, it works really well. My first print was easy to assemble, and the key opened the lock. what more can you ask for?

additional parts required: 3 springs (from clicky ball point pens; some superglue/epoxy glue; two 4mmx50mm bolts & nuts (other solutions possible, see instructions)

Outdoor water faucets have a tendency to loose their plastic key during the winter season. Next time this happens you can simply 3D print yourself a new one.

The key was 3D printed in ABS plastic which sometimes needs to be fixed during 3D printing, specially under overhangs.

As an experimental alternative to letting MakerWare create support structures, we chose to create them ourselves. This was easily done inside netfabb Studio Basic by creating flat box primitives and placing them under the overhang areas as well as intersect them with the model of the key.

This is in most cases a preferred method of supporting only the necessary overhang parts of a 3D model.

The bright green colour was chosen on purpose to make the 3D printed key stand out on the ground in case it would fall off and get lost again.

Most UK keys are Yale or simular enough that Yale fit, say 80+%. So this customiser will allow you to copy your keys.

Printed, and the new version fits the Yale profile (finally!). It needed a few corners filed off that were catching, but then it worked fine.

A friend bought a second-hand car, and one of the keys was missing its case. So we scanned the key and case, converted them to SVG using inkscape and then to openscad-DXF using a plugin from the web.

A working key for the handcuffs used by Dutch and German police. Tested, works perfectly.

This is a re-do of [Ray's key](http://ke.y.nu), but I've used a real key as reference, so it's now much more accurate.

**Be careful** about print quality. Make sure the key is as sturdy as you can make it, because you don't want it breaking off inside a handcuff.

Inspired by the Bauhaus Series: Unibody titanium key-carabiner K11 by Más Design. I haven't had a chance to print it but I did want to get it out of my head and up incase anyone else did.

Pretty much a copy of Belfry's Toothpaste key, except with a moon as the handle, and a star cut into it. Actually extremely comfortable to hold and use.

This is a replacement knob for a lamp, in the shape of a windup key.

Not only does it look cool, but it makes the knob easier to turn! You can even
turn it with the key in-between your fingers; very little dexterity is required.

This is a key tag surf comb. It works great. It has a concave part (with chamfer) for scraping the rails of the board and a straight edge (with chamfer) for scraping the top. It also has the teeth for creating grip.

For some reason there is lots of open hardware logos and keychains, but not a singel open source logo, so i made one. I have made it the same dimension as the open hardware key chain from kevinkline4124. But since there was no source files for his kaychain i had to make som guesses so it might not be exactly the same. But i have included my openscad file for you to make your own adjustment.

My Honda Key fob broke where the screw is so I created a snap on cover to keep everything tight.

This key is my first 3D object made with openscad. I chose this for two reasons.
It's a nice object to learn how to work with openscad.
And more important: I think every geek, hacker, technician want to have this tool in their toolbox!!!!

This key fits on a lot of cool things.
I tested it with trafic lights and street lights
but this will also work for
For control cabinets, shut-off systems in gas, water and electricity supplies
For technical installations in buildings like air-conditioning and ventilation systems, shut-off valves, mains switchboards etc.
