Firestand [first prototype]

Space is a luxury in my small apartment, and even more so on my overcrowded work table. I created Firestand to hold my 13” MacBook Pro on top of my M-Audio FireWire 610 audio interface, It has helped me reclaim over 67 square inches of space on my desk (and, yes this is an accurate calculation of my space savings).

This is a DIY project that can be recreated using a laser cutter. All you need is a 12” x 24” piece of plexi (1/4“ thick), acrylic cement, and a few hours of spare time. Production files are available in Adobe Illustrator, svg, and dwg formats.

This thing is large... almost 200mm long on the angle. It will warp slightly when it cools, but the rods pull it straight again...
If you print in PLA then make sure the laptop doesn't melt it.

Sized to hold an ASUS eee1000h (with an extended battery). Should fit most other small laptops.

I got bored of all the Laser owners having fancy laptop stands so I decided to make one...
Its not solid enough to type on, but I was just after the extra height.

I have included a basic frontplate, but you could make a fancy custom one like I did.
(The ZIP is of all the files in one wad)
Please note that the pictures do not show the frontplate (as its not needed with my laptop/battery combo)
some time ago my laptop stand broke a T conector, made of plastic, and was pretty much useless after that... after I got my makerbot, it was possible to fix it, so I designed a new T-conector, and its better then before.
I needed some sort of laptop stand to get the screen up higher, and one that I could get my external keyboard under so my computer wasn't too far away. I'd never seen exactly what I was looking for, so I figured I'd whip one up!

A little while later, with some help from Inkscape and our Lazzzor, I had this laptop stand.

Because the stand is made from 3 flat pieces which you can take apart, it's extremely portable and light.
