Our son absolutely loves all things treasure, so I decided to create a small treasure chest for him. He absolutely loves the result, keeping his most valuable treasure safe inside. Then of course our other son wanted one desperately too, so I improved the cut and made another. And then the wife wanted one for her desk at work, and then one as a present for her sister… So I thought I might share the design.

For 3mm MDF.

File optimised to share all cut lines and minimise material needed.

Genuine curved wood slat lid.

Working lock.

Guaranteed to attract treasure of all kinds.

Will it contain coins or a power up? Ok, well, neither actually - just some custom electronics designed to make the bottom capacitive-touch sensitive. When you punch - er, touch - the bottom, the light toggles on and off and plays the classic "coin" noise. Once in while, though, you might find that you get something... extra.

Check out this video of the lamp in action: youtube.com/watch?v=J05lAg8_1zY

I designed this in OpenSCAD and cut it out of several colors of acrylic. I'm going to post the scad file as well as the Eagle PCB design and the firmware once I have cleaned those up a little.

In the meantime, if you must have one, you can buy a kit from our Etsy store: etsy.com/listing/90652319/super-mario-inspired-touch-sensitive
The concept was to have a sensor that wasn't inline with the coolant line and couldn't restrict the flow if it seized up. I'm sure that the design is scaleable within reason for other projects. It is simply tywrapped to the outlet end of the coolant pipe and dunked in the coolant reservoir/bucket.
The sensor is a simple hall effect switch.

BTW, if anyone knows how to embed a YouTube link to movie, let me know - the movie is at the bottom :-)

After testing a few iterations here is a design that is ready to share; I call it the Bot Window. I know what your thinking, what a creative and catchy name. :) Ok, truth be told its a simple but effective design that consists of acrylic panels to cover three sides of the bot (left, right and rear (and gets bolted on using left over MBI parts).

This summer the space I was in had a non-controllable AC where temps were around 55F, yes you read that right, (95F outside at the time). After blocking off air vents to decrease windflow in the room and covering three sizes of the MB (left, rear and right) with cardboard the temps went up to the 65F range. Using a make-shift hood on top (think barn roof) this got me to the 69F+ range and more importantly back to good prints without lifting of edges from rapid cooling.

With drafts from outside and windows in the new space the window panels have taken the chill off the platform (reduced draft) and keeping me in the mid 80's consistently. This design is based off of the MBI TOM MP887 Rev-I design file and will rest on top of the cover plates of the rods running from front to back.

If you have access to a laser cutter or know someone that has one, this will be quick work.

Panels were cut courtesy of my friend Angus Hines (http://www.angushines.com), thanks Angus!
