Our son absolutely loves all things treasure, so I decided to create a small treasure chest for him. He absolutely loves the result, keeping his most valuable treasure safe inside. Then of course our other son wanted one desperately too, so I improved the cut and made another. And then the wife wanted one for her desk at work, and then one as a present for her sister… So I thought I might share the design.

For 3mm MDF.

File optimised to share all cut lines and minimise material needed.

Genuine curved wood slat lid.

Working lock.

2 unique keys provided.

Guaranteed to attract treasure of all kinds.

This tool will become more useful as people (maybe you? maybe me?) generate tools to lock gears into place for heavier use.

This design also inclues an etched QR code directing people to the downloadable files.

Explanation of the Prusa's thick sheet is here: reprap.org/wiki/Thick_Sheet

This design has a few improvements:

-Support for Prusa Iteration 2's single thick sheet design.
-There are holes for belt clamps, lm8uu bushings, and Prusa's heated bed.
-Holes in the middle of the thick sheet to reduce weight.
-The edges of the holes are rounded to prevent stress from concentrating in small areas.

The design could be improved by adding holes to mount something for opto endstops and slots for LM8UU holder zip ties.

Update: I adjusted position and size of the holes for the belt clamp (so the belt can be shorter), heated build plate (was a tight fit in original), and LM8UU holes (so no print area is lost).

This upgrade is a drop-in replacement for the stock eMAKER bearing holders. Mine failed under regular use and I was prompted to design something better. Instead of wood screws, these use small zip-ties and attach to an eMAKER Huxley without permanent modification to the machine.

Advantages of my upgrade:
-part count remains the same or is reduced
-easier installation
-won't fail under regular use
-uses less printing material
-no overhangs; easier to print

Build platforms are sensitive to changes in temperature and can affect your prints. After testing a few iterations here is a design that is ready to share; I call it the Bot Window. I know what your thinking, what a creative and catchy name. :) Ok, truth be told its a simple but effective design that consists of acrylic panels to cover three sides of the bot (left, right and rear (and gets bolted on using left over MBI parts).

This summer the space I was in had a non-controllable AC where temps were around 55F, yes you read that right, (95F outside at the time). After blocking off air vents to decrease windflow in the room and covering three sizes of the MB (left, rear and right) with cardboard the temps went up to the 65F range. Using a make-shift hood on top (think barn roof) this got me to the 69F+ range and more importantly back to good prints without lifting of edges from rapid cooling.

With drafts from outside and windows in the new space the window panels have taken the chill off the platform (reduced draft) and keeping me in the mid 80's consistently. This design is based off of the MBI TOM MP887 Rev-I design file and will rest on top of the cover plates of the rods running from front to back.

If you have access to a laser cutter or know someone that has one, this will be quick work.

Panels were cut courtesy of my friend Angus Hines (http://www.angushines.com), thanks Angus!
