This is actually a scan that I did using 123D. Check this blog post for details on how that was done: <a href="http://makerbot.umwblogs.org/3d-scanning-from-photographs-with-123d-catch" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">makerbot.umwblogs.org/3d-scanning-from-photographs-with-123d-catch</a><br />
<br />
I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out but would love to know more on how to give it a flat bed to sit on and remove the makeshift ramp that was left from the table being included in the scan. I've included the .obj file that I got from the software and the only editing I did was removing the extra furniture and parts of the table in Meshmixer (very new to this).<br />
<br />
In any case you can print your own Perry and keep him close. If you do I'd love to see a picture of him in your natural habitat!

I've been working on turning pointcloud data into usable, printable models and the Hackspace @ RFA cloud Thing proved to be good practice. The scan has a fairly high point density, and I've found my laptop isn't quite up to the task of working on such models... perhaps it is time for an upgrade!

All I've done is sliced it into 4 pieces using Netfabb, to make it easier to print. The STL from Artec is super clean, so if you have better ideas for how to prep the piece for printing, download their original file and give it a try!

( because I'm a huge fan of the show Oddities <a href="http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/oddities" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">dsc.discovery.com/tv/oddities</a> ) I went looking for something I could do a 3D scan of and print on my MakerBot. This was the creepiest, cheapest thing I could find that I thought would scan well. It also made me laugh when I pulled the string and found the mouth still moved.<br />
<br />
It appears to be a 1930's Walt Disney Dopey Dwarf from Snow White, see: <a href="http://www.royaleaffairdolls.com/Repairs.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">royaleaffairdolls.com/Repairs.html</a><br />
<br />
I scanned it with Spinscan <a href="http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9972" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">thingiverse.com/thing:9972</a> Which now supports color textured scans. The dimensions are still a little off causing scans to be squashed slightly... Math is hard. Let's go shopping!<br />

Spinscan isn't calculating the Z axis correctly, so if you download the point cloud you'll see it was stretched. I had to shrink the Z axis in blender. Other then that and 2 steps in meshlab, it required no cleanup or merging of multiple point clouds, spinscan got a complete scan of all sides in one go.

This OpenSCAD script creates two parts - a stand with a customizable name text in 8bit font <a href="http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2054" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">thingiverse.com/thing:2054</a> and slices up a head scan and adds a pin connector slot <a href="http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10288" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">thingiverse.com/thing:10288</a> This way you can make the head super big to get more detail to show as well as avoid the overhang under the bust from causing problems.<br />

As an added bonus, my bust is now modular so you can use pin connectors to attach it to other things. You know you want to.<br />

I was travelling in China and scanned this part of the ancient water drainage with my photo camera. I am still wondering if it was a dragon, an elephant or a crocodile. <br />
<br />
You can find it in the Summer Garden of the Forbidden City in Beijing, China and figure out yourself.<br />
<br />
Attached STL is a shell with no scale. It may need repair, etc.<br />
<br />
I wish someone of this talented community could find a good use of this model in pretty dull CAD designed devices. I cannot figure out anything exciting than a hook.<br />
<br />
I have more 3D scans from China. Let me know if Thingiverse people want more replicas of Chinese art.

Its a tight fit in my large frame laser sintering machine...the material alone would cost thousands of dollars, but I want to build one so bad in one piece!
