This sculpture commemorates the end of the shuttle program. The shuttle silhouette is cut out of a cemetery. Pour one out for this retired work-horse!
It's art so it's not "for" anything other than to impress your friends with your well-developed cultural palette.

This is a variation on the first sculpture (also on Thingiverse). What's important is this sculpture features the silhouette of William Shatner cut out of a landscape.
I just liked the sculpture which is quite brutal. I like Mayakovskiy as well.
Since Mayakovski committed a suicide in 1930 ( I could be mistaken with a date), I made auxiliary model with poor guy’s head blowing away. I am afraid tiny scull connectors may not be possible to replicate.

The Anywhere Organ v3.1

I've been creating a sculpture, the Anywhere Organ anywhereorgan.tumblr.com , for the past year or so. It's gone through many iterations, modifications, revisions, and changes over time but is finally coming together into a predictable, robust sculpture.

I designed these parts as a system to take salvaged organ pipes and create them into a huge extended instrument, networked together and controlled by MIDI. Organ enthusiasts have been saving dismantled pipe organs from the dumpster for years, but many don't have the time or resources to use all the parts they acquire. I've found they've been very eager to have me take random or incomplete sets off their hands. As my own collection grows I'm hoping to add to the Anywhere Organ, eventually having the mobile equivalent of a cathedral organ I can take anywhere from an underground cave, to an abandoned theater, to a fire escape and play.

I've been doing a Kickstarter trying to raise funds for the next bigger, better version. Please give it a look, tell your friends, and donate. kck.st/anywhereorgan

All of the DXF's are designed to be cut centerline on an industrial laser out of 3/4" nom. (.719") indoor plywood.

This document was created as a way to release what I've learned and built through designing the Anywhere Organ. It is not intended to be a tutorial. It is intended to help folks get on their way to building their own organs, laser cut instruments, and huge awesome things. At some point I may tutorialize, but the path to the design I now have has been so long and winding it is difficult to put down concisely into a Thing.

A bit of background on this piece: the model itself is my first ever attempt at 3d printing. The assembly of the original was done by hand, but that is the only step that resembled traditional not-printing. I wrote a rudementry model slicing tool in college one afternoon; and then realized that I could put that to work in a sculpture class I was taking at the time. The assignment was basically "here's two big sheets of polystyrene; go nuts." I finished the project in a few days, where two weeks were alloted for the assignment.

For your enjoyment, I've included a picture of my two original prints.

I'm going to decline to release my code right now, as "rudementry" is an overstatement on the quality of the code and my poor understanding of best practice at the time.

Yeah, I know, everyone uses "but my code is ugly" as an excuse, but believe me, using a shell script to generate a c++ header from an .obj file (for obscure performance reasons, and didn't know of a good library to use for what I wanted, and didn't want to spend the rest of the afternoon researching one) and re-adapting a program you wrote to demonstrate shader programs (for an independant study) to facilitate the slicing stuff... oh and don't forget, the gui for operating the slicer (adapted from the demo program) is a python program. More embarassing than the run-on sentance I just wrote. Trust me, the code is fugly. Time constraints and using what I knew at the time won over researching best practice.

I do have plans to remake the slicing tool now that I'm older and wiser, since it enabled something that resembles 3d printing to persons with no budget. It also enables working in pretty much any scale you like without concern for overhangs. Such a remake I would opensource or make public domain for sure.

Oh, almost forgot; this piece is an abstraction of an aligator vertebra.

I took photos and uploaded them using the Photofly software at labs.autodesk.com/utilities/photo_scene_editor/ to create an .OBJ file. I then closed up any holes using NetFabb Studio's repair function and then cropped and resized the model in Blender to make a printable bust.
Unbelievable technology and all free. Huge thanks to all the developers.

I've also included each STL file in two resolutions.

I was browsing various other 3D download sites, thinking how bad most of the free models are for 3D printing and found this :
archibase.net/download/27844.html
I thought it could be printable.
So, downloaded it & imported the .3ds file into Google Sketchup.
Realised that it wasn't perfect, so added a base and a support for the chin. I also decided to add a void in the middle to hopefully use a bit less plastic but still have something to "fill" for strength.
The void has a flat top. My printer did a reasonable job of printing the flat with no support. First layer a bit sketchy, second was fine.
I'm guessing there would be better ways to do the chin support as well but this was a quick job!
As an added bonus, my bust is now modular so you can use pin connectors to attach it to other things. You know you want to.
