CNC Ninja Domo*pes CNC Snap UPGRADE PARTS w/ TOOL HOLDER

I recently built the Ninja CNC kit from CNCSNAP.com. They include some pretty good harware but I wanted my machine to be able to cut heavier material. So i began making upgrades to the machine. I replaced the laser cut motor mounts with HEAVY DUTY 3D printed ones that are probably a little "over" built. But stronger is better right? I also designed a very robust tool holder that fits the motor they supply with the kit. I love this tool holder, it works great. Note: you will need to drill a hole in the end of the clamp to bolt it together. I recommend a small diameter machine screw. Next I stiffened up the guide rods with a set of support claps on each rod. I made them slightly under sized so you will need to run a 1/4" drill through them. My "Y" axis coupler broke so I replaced it with thing 7059. I can't find the corner bracket file I used to stiffen up the frame but I'll post it when I do. I also bolted together my "Z" carriage because it wanted to split with putting the tool holder one it.
If you have any questions or want me to make other upgrade/ design changes just let me know.
Thanks and I hope you put these files to good use.
The 6 Packer is constructed of 3/16" thick laser cut ply wood and assembled with 4-40 1/2" screws and nuts. The bottle holes will accept anything from the run of the mill long neck bottles to IBCs to short chubby craft beer bottles.

The 6 Packer was designed with openscad and is completely parametric. You can change material thickness, bottle diameter, fastener size, hand grip size re-render and cut out using your favorite laser cutter!
Carpentry is clearly not my forte.

Over at I Heart Engineering we have been scaling up production of some of our products store.iheartengineering.com/I-Heart-Engineering-Tripod-Adapter/dp/B004ET5VLG using MakerBot ToM #5667 "The Future". However the ABS fumes can be somewhat unpleasant and not everyone enjoys hearing stepper motors all day long so we threw together this box like structure. Another benefit of the box is that it cuts down on drafts and helps ensure that large parts turn out flat. Finally one nice feature is that the door stays open once opened, the door also closes. The primary downside of the current design is that the printer can not be removed without unscrewing the side.

The spindle control is for passing through power to a router, so it has a power switch and an easily press-able emergency stop. The two other boxes go back to the PC and are used to stop motion on the X, Y & Z axes.

The electronic parts are all available from Altronics in Australia, but I'm sure other vendors have compatible stuff. Check their datasheets to see if the mountings are the same or just delete and add a new one.
S3228 - Rocker switch , Neon. (27.5mm by 13.6mm square mounting)
S0820 - E-stop buttons, (16mm dia hole.)
P8241 - GPO outlet, flush mountable. (most of a 33.5 mm dia circular hole and 4.5mm dia offset hole)

The box designs came from here. Check it out, well worth the $12.

Based on oomlout's original Arduino holder design, I made a similar holder for the QuickStart Board. Jessica Uelmen from Parallax came to our Hacker Space, FamiLAB, and gave an instructional class on the boards. I made this to hand out to the students.
Large letter slot that is now 250mm x 25mm

and the Letter slot which is now 165mm x 5mm

It also now includes Packet pricing for UK first class packets from 1kg upwards.. Packets above 1kg can only be 1st class

Prices seem to have gone up by 10%-12%
The larger the item or its weight
The price increase seems to be more like 10% than 12%

NOTE! When using this if you have to put ANY pressure on the letter or package to get it through it is a FAIL!!.

If you item falls straight through the intended slot it is OK.

You can not cheat on this!! "ANY" pressure required to get it through it will cost more to post as the item being posted moves up from a letter to a large letter or from a Large Letter to a Packet,
However, it was too large the first time I printed it. Instead of re-printing it, I realized it would make a great ornament. Therefore, I added an extra hole right at the center and looped a piece of reed ribbon through it. I printed out a few more and gave them to my aunt and mom for the holidays!

The PDF pattern was generated with a Processing script, which I wrote. I've included the script for reference, although you only need the PDF to produce copies of the box. Each box is laser cut from a single piece of 12x12 plywood.

Here's a video of my daughter on Christmas: youtu.be/n9I88Lt0zUw

The lid of the box contains an inlaid Hilbert curve, a kind of space-filling fractal. A more detailed Hilbert curve is etched into the bottom of the box. The sides of the box contain inlays or holes in the shape of the letter J, which is the first initial of each of my four family members.

The pieces of the box fit together like a puzzle. Each side contains a single letter J, which I dyed different colors, using food coloring. These could also have been left as holes, to make the box louder.

The crank hole is designed for a very common type of hand-cranked movement, of which Kikkerland is one manufacturer.

This started off as the "TARDIS Coloring" image by "Violet Succubus" on DeviantArt (http://fav.me/d310mxy). It was the cleanest, nicest, B&W line drawing of the TARDIS from head-on I could find.

There was much fiddling, adding to, filtering and re-drawing by myself and two guys (both named "Matt") at my hackerspace, but many of those lines are still hers and for them I thank her. I don't think it would have come out as nice as it did without such a solid place to start from.

PS - Yes, I know. The windows are wrong. I'll get to it, but until then I'm calling this version done. :D
When I was at the hardware store to buy the pieces to make the bar, I found these long wooden pieces that were exactly the shape of track I was going to build. Since they were laying behind the large saw they use to cut wood for customers, I asked what they were and discovered they were the pieces that hold the plastic strapping on the outside of the palettes of wood they get. The nice gentleman then said "you can just have one". Perfect! He told me to tell the checkout person it was a "runner". I don't know if that is a generic term for "free wood" or the actual technical name. Either way it was free which was awesome.

These pieces are probably of limited value as usable pieces (unless you have a "runner" and a pico projector and frame that need to be adjustable), but may be interesting for learning from or improving upon.
