I designed it a few years ago after reading 'Chasing Vermeer' by Blue Balliett in which the main character solves a crime with the help of pentominoes. It's Nintendo DS size and a clear cover prevents the pieces from falling out. Later I made a batch of larger sets for our Maths department.

There are 2 layers of 3mm and 1 layer of 2mm acrylic. The surround of the Top layer was bonded to the Base layer with thin acrylic cement, Tensol 7. An M3 lock-nut is inserted from the very bottom and held in place by an M3 countersunk fastener that also allows the clear cover to swivel.

One of the files is in *.dtd format for direct use in UK schools where Techsoft 2D Design is widely used to laser cut.

Ghostly glow in the dark keyring.
Attach your car/house keys to this and you'll be able to locate them in total darkness. If lost in forest/dark areas, just use UV flashlight to sweep the surroundings and your keys just pop out.

Strong enough to handle everyday use (2mm thick) and not too big for the pocket.

Designed to be printed with glow in the dark plastic but works well as keyring with different colors too.

Fast to print (~10min), so if you're owner of ABP, you'll be able to equip your whole family with these never-to-lose keyrings in notime.

This is the outcome:

My idea: Creating the whole stage from one big extruded/casted (aluminum?) piece, just adding a motor, a belt and rails. If that actually works, what about using the same pieces for all three stages? Wouldn't that be awesome? It could be quite precise and very, very cheap to produce!

What do you think?

Best of all: This design is size independent - the base, belts and rails can be produced at arbitrary lengths! So give it a try with a 10m stage!

Allow me to dream away for a while... :-)
This is a fully printable lathe for light duty work (making nozzles etc.)
Overall length approximately 450mm work Length of 150mm
Diameter based on chuck sizing (larger diameter will put more stress on everything)
NO BUSHINGS FOR GUIDES (Friction is a good thing it will stop any shaking or rattling and with manual lead screws ease of movement is not essential )

CHUCK
Chuck is under-cut on its interior to make it flexible(printable overhangs)
Single size replaceable chuck must be bored to size of your work piece.
Since you use the tail stop chuck to drill the main chuck your work piece will always be centered.
The nut for the chuck is a plumbing nut for sink traps or ?????(you can print it but strength my be an issue)
The chuck has no threads and should not need any

UPRIGHTS
One simple upright used four times to make the headstock and tailstock

I designed this almost 13 months ago, but back then, I couldn't manage to successfully print on my MakerBot. So I forgot about it.
Today, I found the files on my hard disk and tried it again...

Surprise: It prints! (sort of)

There's some serious oozing going on (see pictures). Also Skeinforge moans and groans when slicing this one...

What surprised me most: after breaking away the support parts and cleaning it up, it turns out that the three rings indeed interlock. There's no way to separate them without breaking at least one of them...
