This is my first dagger, so I'm not sure the best way to go about printing such a thing. He seemed pleased with the result though, so that's what counts..
His design is heavy on zipties, but where I am, I can only find the cheap kind that break before you even tighten them..

I have yet to redesign the tail section or mid body section. I think a mid body section that folds more like a tripod would be cool..

I also plan on adding things like a prop shroud so that if I run the thing into my face again, it will cause less damage. :D
I had seen a few designs already, and really liked some, but wanted to add some additional functionality.

Not to completely reinvent the wheel, I incorporated a few of those designs and made the thing modular.

After many Boolean operations, and due to poor planning, I accidentally created a locking feature with a ridge on the opening of the grenade body.

I got griped at for taking this into a public place.. I really didn't consider that either..
With this this spool holder and some mirroring, one could potentially mount 6+ spools to a replicator.

This design is quite blocky and unrefined. I was in a hurry to add another color..

Bodgie X

So I got frustrated by my larger, complete redesign of my arducoper, and instantly fell in love with brucedjones's bodgie design. I also really want to do FPV so I redesigned the way the Aeroquad board mounts to allow for an X configuration. I did this by moving the arm mounting holes out about 1mm, So you can still choose a Plus configuration if you want.

The lower platform was designed extremely quickly as burn out was starting to set in here as well.. A quick GoPro mount was added to this and I had plans to make a quick AV transmitter mount, but booleans and maya weren't cooperating...

I have just rubber banded the RC rx to one of the arms for now, but may look into a more proper way to keep it on.. Maybe an upper cage to protect electronics and constrain wires?...

I have really only flown once so far.. about 3 minutes of hovering around while mosquitoes were trying to eat me..

It oscillates a little with the 1500mah batt and I had a few hops with a 2200 and it was really unstable, so It will need some PID tuning..

FPV electronics and Gopro may make things a bit heave, esp with a 2200mah batt..

Though holding in my hand at about 2/3 throttle I was showing about 10 amps coming out of the battery, which is a bit promising.. between 1/2 to 2/3 throttle seemed to be about hover position.. again only one flight and distractions..
It seems common place to use nylon/plastic screws on quad/multi-copter builds.. Which I don't have an abundance of.. which got me thinking about alternatives: the zip-tie, cheap, easily available, gotta be fairly strong right?

Well it turns out I don't have an abundance of 2mm screws either.. Short story shorter, this is an experiment in using zip-ties to mount small quad-copter motors. I have also designed an arm with holes to mount the motors with screws, but have not printed it..

Carbon Fiber Arducopter/Quadcopter Frame

So I purchased an Arducopter Pre-assembled and tested, Something I rarely do. Maybe it was a subconscious action then, that within a week I had smashed it into the ground?

Now I am designing and rebuilding it, testing and learning and really enjoying it.

Some pieces survived and I had initially thought to design things as a replacement/upgrade. Now I think that would be silly to tell people to "Print these, and buy these 'special' parts", so I am making the attempt to make this frame fully DIY...

I haven't really been documenting the process, but initially it seemed there would be a slight weight savings in the carbon fiber/ABS parts vs the stock arducopter aluminum/acrylic parts.

Maybe some different construction methods could be used to increase savings?

This is very much a work in progress, but thought I'd get the idea out in order get some feedback and enable collaboration.
