It's a quick print, a sleek design, and functional to boot. The zip top closure makes a satisfying zippy noise, and holds everything closed nicely. Kudos to gabielfp's awesome roll top box and emmett's bracelet that served as my inspiration.

Watch assembly and demo:
youtube.com/watch?v=3lyNmkLAWwA

I've made subtle changes to the fabric edges, for better alignment with the side bands, since taking the photos shown in this post. Close ups of this area appreciated by anyone who makes a print.

There are lots of options for other sizes, orientations, or the addition of a chain in future releases.
If I were to tackle this set again, I'd reduce the depth of the seats, reduce the curvature in the front legs, and take a second look at the angle of the arms. The finish in the arms is a little loose in this print due to overhangs that are a too severe. I had some print defects in these prints, but overall am pretty happy with how they came out.

A printable clutch (purse, evening bag, etc) for desktop 3D printers. I've been a big fan of Zomboe's things, and have been eyeing his chainmail designs since I bought my TOM last year. There are lots of 3D printed fabric applications for pro-grade printers on shape ways, etc, but not for use on reprap or makerbot style printers. Building some awesome and wearable feminine accessories has been on my to do list for awhile.

Goals:
1. Functional purse that will hold an iphone.
2. Print and assemble without glue
3. Attractive and durable enough to actually use.

I did not succeed on these counts. This project is less a work in progress, than an abandoned proof of concept. But, it's time to get it off my hard drive and out on the web. I expect to try again, with some lessons learned.

The problems:
1. This took 24 hours to slice in RepG. That's longer than I want to wait, and too long to iterate quickly. I either need to simplify the geometry somewhat, or use a newer and faster slicer.
2. It's difficult to get every corner to stick to the platform, especially with a second extruder interfering and prying up a loose ends. Aggressive solutions like applying ABS slurry to the platform result in a less than desirable surface finish, and a lot of kapton tape to peel off the print. One missing square, and the print is ruined. There are about 5 holes in my print.
3. I haven't solved how the sides go together. Currently, I think a blanket stitch with plastic lacing used in kids' friendship braclets or embroidery floss should suffice. But it's not a great solution.
4. To be functional, this design really needs a chain or wristlet loop.
5. I could make a nicer looking design if I altered my approach from no-glue-snap-together, to allowing multiple pieces.
6. The hinge works well, but needs to be a little beefier to hold up.

I was happy with how pretty and shiny the fabric looks. With a more attractive shape and clasp, I'd wear it. There are cool options for textile prints with dual extrusion if I could just get everything to stick better.

The "fabric" only bends in one axis on each side, which you should take into account if use it in another way.

These scans have all been run through 123D Catch. In most cases, they have not been processed any further, and I don't anticipate doing so in the near future. I've included a description of each, along with a grade. The better the grade, the easier and more appropriate the file is for prep for 3D printing. Even though these scans aren't print ready, there is a lot of awesome data which might be valuable to the right person. Enjoy and share your results if you take any of these scans further.

A zip file contains the photo sets, 123D Catch files, and OBJ exports with texture. I've included a zip file of all the available OBJs for quicker access without the download times.

Edited and print ready.

From the display at AMNH - the description refers to a model of the Temple of the Sun - this scan is a fragment from it:
"The model below portrays the so-called Temple of the Sun at Palenque, a famous site known for the elegance of its architecture and for the stucco sculpture decorating its buildings. Palenque temples have an unusual sanctuary in the form of a small building at the back of the inner room, and a sloping mansardlike roof. Also typical is the crestlike structure on the roof, known as a roof comb, that gives the building added height and apparently served as a base for stucco sculpture. Fragements remain of the sculpture that also covered the sloping roof panels."
From the display at ANHM:
"The female King Cobra, Ophiophagus hannah, of Southeast Asia constructs a nest a few days before egg deposition, perhaps a month after mating. Forming an open loop with her head and forebody, she scoops plant debris and soil into a pile within a stand of bamboo. She forms a pile about 15cm (6in.) high and compacts the interior into a bowllike depression by crawling around and pressing on it numerous times, occasionally pausing to gather more litter. After depositing about 20 to 50 eggs, she covers them with additional debris. Males are not tolerated near the nest."

From the AMNH website: "Mass graves of these animals have been found, indicating they may have been victims of a sudden cataclysmic event, such as a flash flood. Bones of young Coelophysis have been found inside the body cavity of the larger animals. This indicates that Coelophysis was cannabalistic and fed on the young of its own species."
