PAMP Suisse / Credit Suisse Bullion Storage Box

This Thing is for my Thingifriends who are interested in investing in precious metals. I'm sure you've all probably heard the saying “If you don't hold it, you don't own it.” So if you do hold it, you will probably want to keep it organized.

This storage box is compatible with PAMP Suisse and Credit Suisse 1 gram to 50 gram gold/silver/platinum/palladium bars in assay cards (which includes the popular 1 oz size shown here). It may also work with other refiners such as APMEX or Sunshine, providing that the assay card is roughly credit card sized.

This was originally intended to be made out of 1/4” aluminum pieces and screwed together, but I wanted to get the dimensions perfect before I started to machine. Just the same, it is still a good little thing so I thought I would share.

*gold bars not included.

Comfort Grip for the Kindle Fire

It seems that every gadget manufacturer out there today is boasting about how thin their latest product is, as if they are trying to mass produce a top super model. The problem is that while these super-thin gadgets are certainly sleek and portable, they are often times actually less usable and comfortable. The Kindle Fire is a perfect example of this thin-happy design flaw. The Comfort Grip for the Kindle Fire solves this flaw by providing a large, smooth, and comfortable surface around your Kindle Fire. It can be installed and removed in seconds simply by sliding the two halves onto your Kindle Fire. The headphone jack, USB port, power button, and speakers remain readily accessible thanks to openings in the top and bottom halves. The Comfort Grip prevents the accidental pressing of the power button while reading your Kindle Fire, and also serves as a screen protector.

I sell these on Amazon and on my website, carbonbasedlifestyle.com , but I thought I'd share it with my Thingiverse friends.

I damn near did it too, with just about 20% left attached. Since I was also sensible enough not to seek medical attention nor get any stitches, I designed and printed this finger splint to prevent any further trauma while things are healing.

It is sized for my middle finger, and I do have little girly-man hands, so you may have to scale things up or down to suit your needs. I actually hope that no one needs this thing, but I'll be glad if it does help someone who does.

thingiverse.com/thing:14544
I liked the look of it so much that I thought it would be fun if I brought it into the 3D world while still keeping it sharp and angular. The original design (shown in blue) will need support to print, but the “Flat Bottom” version (shown in yellow and green) does not and still looks cool. Both versions have been modified with a small negative offset so that they will interlock in their printed form, even if your printer overprints slightly.

If a bird had sex with a jet fighter, well, that wouldn't work out too well. But this might be the progeny if it did happen.

I'm thinking of using a smaller scale version of this as a chopstick rest.

Honda CRV Cup Holder Latte Adapter

It's an early December morning. The dew is glistening on the leaves as an ill wind shakes them with the apprehension of things to come. The gray, sullen sky does little to wake my heavy eyes. I drive in a daze, with barely a conscious thought in my mind. My trusty CRV steers me to my local coffee shop and deposits me mere feet from my salvation.

My footsteps are heavy, but my heart remains hopeful. I make the seemingly endless journey from the parking lot to the front counter. Some barely audible grunts serve adequately as my order. I stand patiently, swaying like a wilting flower in the noonday sun, praying to any god that will listen for my precious latte to come before I die.

Then, like an angel bearing a sacred artifact, the radiant coffee lady hands me my latte with a smile. The bright lights behind her silhouette her in darkness while surrounding her with a brilliant white glow. I swear to myself that one day, I will marry her.

I spend some time preparing my latte with just the right amount of sugar and I stir it with all my might, for these things must be done properly. Finally, it is ready. But I dare not drink it. No, the time is not yet right.

I make the return journey across the dark, blustery parking lot of despair and climb into my faithful CRV. I place my precious latte into the factory cup holder and rest my full faith in the craftsmen who built it. I turn my still foggy mind towards work, using all of my mental strength to decide what I will do for the day. As I contemplate my future, I make a left out of the parking lot, giving the gas pedal some extra pressure, urging the CRV to hurry before the traffic catches us up.

The power surges, the CRV turns hard, the latte goes airborne. My heart seizes with terror and sadness as I see my precious latte explode against the passenger-side door. The caffeine rich coffee drips down the inside of the door as rain drips down the outside and tears drip down my face. “I didn't even have a sip. Not one sip,” I sob as rage boils up from the depths of my soul and I swear vengeance against anyone and everyone. I rail against fate, against God, and the bastard who designed that cup holder. I swear to myself then and there that this shall never ever happen again.

And so I made this cup holder adapter. I urge you to make it and use it. It just might save your latte one day.

Anyway, this thing is used to hold the most commonly used Sherline mill & lathe tools. It started out as a simple place to keep the little chuck rods but quickly grew out of hand. It will work best if you affix some sort of rubber on the bottom to provide grip, otherwise the whole thing might slide while pulling the solder from the spool. I used some adhesive-backed rubber sheeting from McMaster-Carr, which comes in handy for many such projects.
