            <title>Heart Gears</title>

This was inspired by Greg Frost's Broken Heart <a href="http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4683" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">thingiverse.com/thing:4683</a>, but it fits in the palm of your hand and can be twisted like some kind of worry ball.  It makes use of the heart shape from <a href="http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6190" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">thingiverse.com/thing:6190</a>, the MCAD involute bevel gear script from <a href="http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3575" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">thingiverse.com/thing:3575</a>, and nophead's polyhole script for making properly dimensioned tap holes <a href="http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6118" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">thingiverse.com/thing:6118</a>.<br />

I was daunted by the complexity of Greg's design, so this one is much simpler, having fewer gears, and a much simpler attachment design (simply thread the bolts into tight plastic holes).  It also uses a smooth heart shape and is made for the hand instead of the desk.

<br />
1. The parts have no overhangs.<br />
2. The flat 'bottom' is completely concealed after assembly; there are no flat spots on the exterior of the sphere.<br />
3. Exterior is made entirely of 'sidewalls' where the resolution of FDM really shines.<br />
<br />
My test samples were built in transparent PVC on a Solido SD300 Pro, but my goal was to design a Makerbot-friendly shape.  Based on feedback from friends, I've adjusted the contours so the pieces 'grab' onto each other after assembly.<br />

<br />
The used technique is self supporting interlocking of pieces (without gluing, screwing or nailing) of 547 different pieces of polypropylene routed with a three-axis CNC. <br />
<br />
The conception and materialization is mixed by using digital and analogue means. <br />
<br />
The first name Strømg is the junction of the English term strong with the Danish surname Strøm. Strong, because it is a robust three-dimensional puzzle witch form is the result of small variations in each of the pieces. Strøm, because this work is an homage to Holger Strøm and his IQ Lamp. <br />
<br />
The Lump Leaks surnames suggest, for instance, the leaking drops of water or the leaking of information. The abstraction of the concept results, morphologically, in a piece that is the materialisation of the metaball modeling technique that was widely used by pioneers of digital media in architecture in the 90’s.

This was for a final project for my 3D modeling class. I went with a Combo lock. It was done to show how a basic combo lock works. Total size is 4 inches wide. 3.5 front to back and 2.5 tall and is made of 10 parts. <br />

The legs for the vehicle were milled from 3/8" plastic sheet stock. All the rest of the components are from LEGO Mindstorms (see <a href="http://tinyurl.com/6nj6w" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">tinyurl.com/6nj6w</a>), which we use to introduce first year students to robotic concepts.<br />
 <br />
The project evolved somewhat during the build, as can be seen in the videos and pictures. The turning video shows a simple timed turn where the vehicle moves forward for five seconds, reverses the direction of the left legs for five seconds, then moves both sides forward again for five seconds. The forward motion video shows a skinny version of the vehicle that had to be widened when turning was added, since the skinny version simply fell over on its side instead of making a turn.<br />

according to the labmanager the twist in the blades removes the pulsating noise<br />
the normal darieus makes.<br />
it`s made in openscad but the code is a little messy.(apart from openscad I only wrote some hello world like things for python tutorial exercises)<br />
