Super handy for changing popped tubes on a bicycle! Print two, then use the first to pry off the tire, then clip it to the spoke, then use the other to remove the rest of the tire.
I have no bot - can somebody try printing this and seeing if it works? This is my first Thing and I'd appreciate any feedback - just trying to get more involved with the Thing community.
local-guru.net/blog/pages/cookiecutter-editor

Recently some very awsome cookiecutter-designs started to show up on thingiverse (like the escher cookie cutter ( thingiverse.com/thing:3207 ) or the jigsaw cookie cutter ( thingiverse.com/thing:3267 ), and many more) (and one of the local radiostations has played "last cristmas", because it's only 6 months till x-mas O_o )

So i thought about how the generation of such custom cookie cutters could be simplified and i developed a custom cookie cutter generator in processing.

read more about the project at my blog post

Gangsta Chess

This is Gangsta Chess! Now you can wage your own criminal underground turf war in your home!

This design is a mashup/derivative based on the original gangsta, created by the OG himself, Yzorg.

I designed this as an entry to a design challenge that was created to settle a friendly disagreement between MakerBlock and I. I guess this is how makers settle disputes!

Each gangsta has his own special chess style hat (or replacement head for the knight) to signify which piece he is. He also has a piece logo on his shirt, to make it easier to identify the pieces, because there is nothing more frustrating than playing chess with pieces that are hard to identify or not instantly recognizable.

Unfortunately, the deadline for the challenge is coming up really fast, so I was only able to print up the black pieces minus pawns. I expect to use Z scaled down gangstas for pawns.

The files were created in OpenScad. I have uploaded the file, but the code isn't that clean.

Thanks to Syvwlch and MakerBlock for their advice during creation.

Update: Unfortunately, the pawns, which I am printing 8 simultaneously, are going to take 6 hours to print! So, I probably won't have the entire chess set printed (white pieces) until Wednesday morning.
I'm going for a the backlit space organism design, I like 6 and 6-5var8 best. The geometry will be like thingiverse.com/thing:6178, but the light will be on the inside.

The OpenSCAD script is included for completeness. There might be some useful modules you could repurpose, but this is not a parametric object. I tuned the parameters by hand separately for each part.

The pieces are compatible with other objects I've tagged with 'Elements'.

Derived from thingiverse.com/thing:5961.

The original pieces took a while to print. This version reduces plastic, and therefore print time. I've been using these pieces to print out lamp-shades ( with thingiverse.com/thing:7857 ). The thinner pieces might be a bit better for diffusing light.

The .scad file can be modified to produce different polygons, different sizes of hinge, and different depths of cutaway.

models.zip contains several pieces :
-- octagon, hexagon, pentagon, square, triangle
-- hollow and cutaway
-- a range of hinge sizes depending on shape size to adjust hinge strength

The good :
-- less plastic
-- faster prints
-- symmetric hinges
-- range of hinge sizes to balance strength and ease of assembly
-- fun with glow-in-the-dark ABS : lh6.googleusercontent.com/_KLnvj61OxTo/Tbh6JxKqlkI/AAAAAAAACqc/RJWNnHgdTYo/DSCF2997.gif

The bad :
-- fragile hinges ( depending on printer calibration )
-- overly tight hinges ( depending on printer calibration )
-- large force required to assemble larger hinges

I made the Globe by RickLaser and shined a light through it which looked cool so decided to make something similar but in a lamp form.

I designed this just before a lazy Sunday afternoon/night of drinking for a friends birthday and when I got home the design felt like it was burning a hole in my Mac, so I just had to go cut it. I ended up finishing it at about 2am Monday morning and hence I only have iPhone pics.

As I have only taken a few quick pics from my iPhone I will add some better pics on sharemake.com under the laser cutting group.
The form is slightly larger than a real iPhone 4 both because of shrinkage during the print process and wanting to make the case still slightly larger than an iPhone 4.
The used technique is self supporting interlocking of pieces (without gluing, screwing or nailing) of 547 different pieces of polypropylene routed with a three-axis CNC.

The conception and materialization is mixed by using digital and analogue means.

The first name Strømg is the junction of the English term strong with the Danish surname Strøm. Strong, because it is a robust three-dimensional puzzle witch form is the result of small variations in each of the pieces. Strøm, because this work is an homage to Holger Strøm and his IQ Lamp.

The Lump Leaks surnames suggest, for instance, the leaking drops of water or the leaking of information. The abstraction of the concept results, morphologically, in a piece that is the materialisation of the metaball modeling technique that was widely used by pioneers of digital media in architecture in the 90’s.
