MakerBot Fairytale Castle Playset

Long Long ago in a land far away, there was a little castle surrounded by an industrious town. The townspeople loved their little castle and wanted it to be perfect. But the little castle was empty. Its owner had left long ago, taking all the fine things with him and locking them away.

The Townspeople resolved to re-furnish there castle. They learned to craft and create. Making chest and chairs, tables and beds, gadgets and gizmo's, they filled the castle with things that reflected themselves and their experiences. They created so many things that at the end of each day it looked like little castle couldn't hold any more.

But the castle had a secret. Every night, it grew. Sprouting new towers, chambers, and cellars. The town's people would awaken and rejoice, ready for another day of crafting and creating. The town was proud of its magical castle, and everyone wanted to fill it with the best that they could offer.

But wasn't a magical castle, it was a MakerBot Castle.

Each night the daring Damsels deftly deployed their wondrous Replicator, creating new rooms to extend the structure. Floor by floor they built up into the sky. Until one day the little castle had become the tallest and grandest in all the Thingiverse.

And the small town around the castle had grown into a great city, filled with the incredible things and spectacular ideas. The Makers, Crafters, and Hackers had learned from furnishing the castle. They had perfected their crafts and honed their skills. When they looked out on the world from the tallest tower, and saw that it too was a place they could rebuild. And they spread across the land, sharing their knowledge and teaching others how to improve the world around them.
This coffin's been tidied up and improved since the demo but still could do with some work it probably could be a bit smaller and it'd be nice to add studs/suckets on the top and bottom (or base and lid), and it could do with holes for attaching things to it, but it's ok as is (and my first upload)
see More Fontz by polymaker at thingiverse - thing:13677

The ornament is labeled on the outside with HAPPY HAPPY and on the inside with JOY JOY - the openings are designed to make JOY JOY visible - HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY are the lyrics to a Ren and Stimpy song of the same name. The ornament is purely decorative and meant to illustrate the use of the newly available fonts. However it could be used to hold paper clips if printed in a larger size.

It's constructed from a polyhedron with 16 faces. While not a regular polyhedron it is an attractive one. It consists of two regular heptagons joined by 14 trapezoids and is simple enough so that the rotations and translations required to joint the text to the figure can easily be calculated. I've included some explanatory comments with the openSCAD code.

This thing is part of a final project for CPSC 183 Technology and the Law with Prof. Brad Rosen at Yale University. The idea of this project is to ask friends for ideas for physical objects that they would like to have that could be printed on the Makerbot TOM. I have designed them, printed them out and given them to the people who requested them. I also have uploaded them here to Thingiverse to add to the library of physical objects that people find cool, useful, or just plain fun!
The result: Part-Y!

The frame consists of L-shaped aluminium profiles, covered in clear plexiglass with vinyldecals designed by my sister. The printer is completely enclosed with charcoal filters on the air outlet to get rid of fumes.

All axes are constructed with high quality professional linear guides. The z axis was originally designed with rods and linear bearings, but I bought the cheapest bearings on ebay and the quality was really bad.

The extruder is a Makerbot mk7 for 1.75mm filament, choosen for it's compact size, high reliability and great precision.

Current build envelope is limited by the area of the heated bed to 210x210x200 mm, the x and y axes are however capable of 240mm movement.

Print-Y is controlled by a Sanguinololu and powered by an internal 400W PSU.

I'll add more details with BOM aso later if someone is interested.

- Increased the lateral separation of 234 mm to 250 mm.

- It has moved 10 mm heated platform down.

- The resulting print volume depends on the platform and the extruder that we place but you can easily get a size bigger than 190 x 190 x 100 mm.

MORE ROBUST:

- The thickness of the acrylic has risen to 6 mm.

- The introduction of a crosspiece to give more rigidity.

- In the attachment points of the rods can be placed brimmed washers (DIN9021).

DESING MADE CONSIDERING THE WIRING:

- The electronics is on the left side of the printer, it is placed horizontally to get the cable up coming from above.

- Parts acrylic have holes or slots provided for wiring.

Now you can fake a knee related arrow injury with this exclusive prosthesis! (Will also work for most other body parts).

It comes with everything you need to make your own arrow as well. The .scad file is somewhat parametric so you can tweak it to fit your needs. The holes are 9-10mm, and you can change out the arrow itself with a twig or a dowel if you prefer.

Before anyone complains about the color of my print, let's just say my printed arrow is supposed to be a glass arrow.

I'd love to see someone print this and put in a proper arrow, though. :)
I went through a lot of steps for to try to clean the mesh, but there is still a lot of work I think. But I don't have enough time and courage to go on. Feel free to give it a go!!
I have added the different elements in STL, if it can help someone.

Also by the way, I'm printing since a few days ABS on an unclad sheet of FR4 epoxy glass with a heated bed built under a piece Vitroceram glass at only 100 degrees celsius and it's a wonder. I had no warp, and Abs sticks surprisingly just like on Kapton tape. After the print is finished, I can just remove the epoxy sheet and it cools down (it can go fast with a little blow) and the part just pops off by itself!
This print is 160mm large and quiet massive, but it just goes fine even though my raft is really small.(see pictures)
