Carbon Reinforced 3-d Prints

This project looks at how to combine the immense strength of carbon fibre, with the design versatility of 3-d printing. The reinforcing methods described here are quite simple and require no equipment or experience.

Unidirectional carbon epoxy is one of the strongest structural materials, and has a tensile strength of about 150Kg per sq mm.

Turbine Rotary Tool 60,000 rpm

Turbines have awesome power in a small package. This one spins up to 60,000 rpm using the airflow of a standard vacuum cleaner, sounds like a 747 taking off, produces amazing power, and sucks up its own dust!

This is an opportunity for someone to make a successful product. I have no commercial interest, and would be delighted if anybody developed it further. A good start would be to source a batch of shafts and spacers for people to experiment with.

The spinning top is an simpler project, also there is a small hand-held turbine rotor just for fun.

Push the ball past the spring-loaded jaws, it's only about eight correct moves to get it out, can you discover the secret?
What about your patience - maybe you'll smash the cube to recover the ball!

This is an elegant and simple version of the 'overbalanced wheel', which supposedly has more weight on one side and will spin forever.
A fun model to make, with an interesting history.

So I made this cover which clips on, with just the 3 big buttons he needs.
He's happy now, it works really well. A great first project for my new Replicator 2
