            <title>ER16 Collet Box</title>

I needed a better storage system than the 'jumbled pile on a workbench' method that I had been using, and I've never seen any caddies or organizers for ER16 collets for sale.<br />
<br />
I whipped up a simple box in SolidWorks to hold 15 collets with a matching lid.  My original plan was to have hinges as part of the actual model, but I was in a hurry and just used the smallest hinges I could find at the home improvement store.  However, hinges are entirely optional as the lid is keyed to the box with hemispherical bumps.

These parts will greatly increase the Z-axis rigidity, especially when drilling and cutting aluminium. All of them can be cut with the machine itself ( some hand finishing such as making the threads is required though )<br />

Z-axis nut holder and top plate supports make the biggest difference, others are not as crucial.<br />
<br />
The zip-package contains updated solidworks files including all assemblies and drawings. Aluminium part outlines are provided as dxf and an overview of them with some measurements as pdf.

This is a 3D-printable version of the Penrose Triangle illusion, based solely on the 1934 design painted by Swedish artist Oscar Reutersvärd. The design also appeared on Swedish postage stamps in the early 1980s.<br />
<br />
I created this 3D design entirely from scratch using the process outlined in the "Instructions" section below. This work is based solely on Oscar Reutersvärd's design, although some elements are inspired by the Hollow-Face illusion discovered many decades (if not centuries) ago.<br />
<br />
This model contains a number of notable improvements over previous 3D representations:<br />
<br />
1) It is parallax-corrected for a viewing distance of 40cm, i.e. it will look exactly like Oscar Reutersvärd's design, with cubes lining up on all 3 sides simultaneously. This is a great visual improvement over previous versions, which only lined up on 2 sides simultaneously.<br />
<br />
2) It has been resized (to 99.43 x 99.65mm) to make maximum use of the Makerbot build envelope.<br />
<br />
3) The top edges are now tapered so as to make the most of your printer's capabilities. The better your printer, the sharper the edges will be.<br />
<br />
4) I own the copyright to this 3D design, and hereby distribute it under the "Attribution/Non-Commercial/Share-Alike" licence for all non-profit parties to print, improve and share.

I laser it cut it out of 3mm birch plywood and stained the dark pieces.  The board is alternating etched & bare squares.<br />

Now that I'm back from the trip, I'm getting around to posting the designs up.<br />
<br />
I hope to make another set, maybe with etched or a scored pattern for the dark pieces, rather than having to stain them and wait for all that boring drying.<br />
<br />
I designed it in SketchUp.  First I snagged some standard looking models for chess pieces from the warehouse.  Then I scaled the king to a height of 85mm and scaled the rest to match (pretty closely) the same base size as the king.  I drew two 90-degree planes through each one and made them components.  Then I intersected one face of the plane with the rest of the model and got the lines I wanted.  I pulled out that new face to 1/2 the width of the ply and did the same to the other side.  Intersecting the two parts got me the lines for the notches.<br />
<br />
A good bit of twiddling later, I used the SVG from SketchUp faces plugin to export one face of each of the parts.  I've noticed the newer version gives much smoother paths, I think there are some gaps in the current version of the files I'm uploading.<br />
<br />
 Note: I've updated the svg files using the newer version of the SVG plugin, which does a single path.  It cuts much cleaner.  I have not, however, updated the EPS with all the pieces laid out on a single board.  I'm leaving it here, just in case someone wants it.

A five degrees of freedom robotic arm. While we have spent many hours twisting knobs to move pop cans from one point on our desk to another sadly it has not progressed much further.<br />
The main reason for this is the sum total of math knowledge around the <a href="http://oomlout.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">oomlout.com</a> offices is about 4 (don't ask us to show our work on how we calculated this) so inverse kinematics is well beyond our reach.<br />
<br />
We are releasing it in an imperfect form in the hope that the clever Thingiverse denizens will be able to make it better.<br />
<br />
Why this isn't quite ready for sale:<br />
-We lack any inverse kinematics program which makes moving the arm intelligently nearly impossible.<br />
-Without software limits on the servos it is capable of stripping the low cost hobby servo motors (this is alright for testing as they are only five dollars) (we have stripped two in the life of our arm and both happened when we were asking it to do silly things) (this can be fixed by upgrading the servos)<br />
-We haven't completed the 3d model or assembly instructions just yet, but by studying the photos it is possible to assemble. (think more jigsaw puzzle than lego set)<br />
-The gripper, lets just say the gripper needs a little work.<br />
<br />
That said it is an amazingly fun toy to play around with, and a good starting point if anyone has ever had a desire to make the perfect robotic arm (it is open source so you'd be free to make and sell your own)<br />
