Complex Chain Mail – Möbius Elastic

Your creativity is your only limitation when designing complex engineered textiles or chainmails. In this example, a 3 sided Möbius link not only generates an interesting structure but actually generates an “elastic” network of links each can be stretched when pulled in a all directions.

Consider chainmail's that transition into plates, chainmail's where the links get progressively thicker in regions enabling controlled zones of opacity and flexibility.

The application of spikes to every link combined with hooks for quick release and fastening, enables some interesting novel textiles for applications in fashion. I might upload my " MacroFur" design if i can find it.

Feel free to download - Enjoy!
I first designed this in 2001. Feel free to download and build

I made one error on this design, the lack of filleting on the "coil to plate core junction" and "plate junctions" will reduce its resistance to fracture from cyclic deformations. However in Nylon it works fine.

1. Always be generous with fillets for surfaces undergoing cyclic tensile stress - especially at the acute apex of the junction.
2. with springs always over model position as typically they will creep deform to a stable state after initial cycling

Note it will Bounce just like a rubber ball

- send me photos - enjoy ! Pat
