I liked the original and saw some comments about removing the hanging hole and going borderless. So here it is.

If you don't want the hole, set the two hole options to zero, ditto for the border. You can change both border sizes too.

The first STL is is Buzz Aldren with a flag on the Moon, the second a moon crater image, both courtesy of NASA. Both with border and hanging-hole.

image-surface.dat is the Moon crater data in case anyone wants it, ditto the Buzz...dat file.

Short story - a rough model of a power tool battery pack. All sorts of uses, including a wall mount to hold the power tools. Long story follows...

Here in Oz-land what used to be a widely available set of cordless power tools has now been monopolised by one hardware store chain.

So now you can only get them at a non-competative price at Bunnings. But they are relatively cheep and do the job.

That however doesn't distract from their wide range of tools utilising a common 18-volt battery design. I have a couple of drills, demolition-saw, sanders, multi-tool, hand-vac, angle-grinder, circular-saw, router, whipper-snipper and a few different batteries (old ni-cad & new lithiumin two sizes) and an 8 port battery charger. (There are a few more investment opertunities left too.;)

So, I wall mounted the 8 port battery charger (and the 36-volt big brother - another story), but wanted to have an easy way to mount all the tools too.

Hence, I needed a model of the battery pack to make a holder.

It took me a while, gave me an introduction on techniques and appproaches to modeling existing real objects, which I may share later, But this is the result.

I'm not familiar with many other brands of batteries, but if yours is similar you may be able to use this SCAD as the base of a design too, I even included a picture. Note the range of quick & dirty modules at the bottom to get various cuts/angles.

FIXED: SDS Drill Bit Holder - Parametric (& OpenSCAD functions)

I had a few long SDS* drill bits rattling around.
So I made a holder. It is for 10mm shank SDS and for 12mm, 16mm & 24mm bits, but it's parametric so you can make your own.

FIXED See SDS Holder v5.scad - Now works for bit sizes smaller than shank size too. Also introduced a couple of extra functions, in VectorMath v2.scad.

To do this I needed some creative maths. I came up with min/max/sum functions for a vector. In case they are useful I have included VectorMath.scad which you can use as a library.

NOTE: The sumv() second parameter is not optional, it must be the n-1'st last element to sum, so if you want to total use len(v)-1. I have updated VectorMath.scad

* [Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_%28engineering%29#Special_Direct_System_.28SDS.29) "Developed by Bosch in 1975 for hammer drills, the SDS System uses an SDS Shank which is a cylindrical shank with indentations to be held by the chuck. A tool is inserted into the chuck by pressing in, and is locked in place until a separate lock release is used."
Based on thingiverse.com/thing:23038, but with retained nut, and clearance for high-Z.

TheGrum's version was fine, and I liked the Printrbot logo.

A while ago I was learning OpenSCAD so decided to do a version for 8mm threaded rod and with the nut retained (also has no bridging). See the v3 stl & the red one in the photos.

It did improve the smoothness of the prints. See the close-up, the red one was printed without a joinder, the white one with the red fitted, much crisper edge, but I found the stepper crashed into it at high Z.

So I did another design moved back on the Y axis, see the v4 stl, the white ones in the photos.
This is lame, but I spent some time on the Cliff module so I'm posting in case someone wants something to make an irregular surface with.

It's difficult to generate the perspective that says 'CLIFF!'

Q&D Sheriff's Protest Badge - Parametric

After hearing the news reports today of the NRAs stance I needed to go into print.

I had some Thing at hand so massaged it a bit, and Hey Presto, a Quick & Dirty Protest Badge.

So now the NRA can print themselves a badge of honour to wear.

Gun fights at the School Corral...

mutter mutter mutter

All the bad guy is going to do is take out the armed School Guard as sniper practice... (...so then I suppose the NRA will want guards with Assault rifles prone on all four corners, why not pill-boxes...Predators circling with hellfire...)

"Thinking is man’s only basic virtue, from which all the others proceed. And his basic vice, the source of all his evils, is that nameless act which all of you practice, but struggle never to admit: the act of blanking out, the willful suspension of one’s consciousness, the refusal to think—not blindness, but the refusal to see; not ignorance, but the refusal to know. It is the act of unfocusing your mind and inducing an inner fog to escape the responsibility of judgment—on the unstated premise that a thing will not exist if only you refuse to identify it, that A will not be A so long as you do not pronounce the verdict 'It is evil'” Any Rand (though I am using this to reflect on the namesless acts of the directors of the NRA)

As whats-his-name said, something has to change.

(Yes I know there aren't that many eight pointed Sheriffs badges, that just makes this one better!)

UPDATED E-stop knob, parametric-ish

This is designed to replace the standard black knob on a push-off pull-on switch.

I will be using it to control the ATX power-on line, i.e. pin 13 to ground to turn the power supply on.

It will be part of my Printbot control panel, a WIP.

I can't recall where I got the switch, but presume it was in my local car accessories shop.

These are what old cars, really old, used as headlight switches. Without relays.

Note: Technically this switch would not qualify as a safety switch, but for me it will be enough for 12/24VDC.

UPDATE Feb 2013. I finished painting my print room and have been able to print some Things, including this.
v0-3 didn't work out well, see photos.
So I now have v0-4 with higher raised lettering (or parameter to recess), and wider at 17.5mm. Looks much better.

I also changed my slic3r retraction movement to 1mm, prints much cleaner, compare the middle one to the righthand one in the photo.

TIP: When utilising write.scad, use 'include' not 'use' as there are variables which don't get set when you use 'use'.
I decided to push myself a bit in my SCAD learning and came up with this. I like the Debug concept to help visualise the bits & pieces.

Now hanging a radio, back brush, face cloth, towel (on outside of course).

The camera didn't cope well with the white plastic...ghost hook?

UPDATED Makerslide Eccentric Spacer - Parametric

UPDATE Feb 2013: Well it doesn't print well with my 0.5mm nozzle. The wall where the hole is close to the side is too thin, see photos. I may try it scalled to a larger bolt size and play with slic3r settings a bit.

This is not a direct derivative of makerslide thingiverse.com/thing:8992 as it does not include the spacers.

This is based on the spec at buildlog.net/sm_laser/drawings/b18001_rev_3.pdf

I couldn't see why a metal one would be any better than a printed one. So I made one in SCAD.

I've also included a plain spacer to match.

It's also all zipped up for easy download.

The original STL of the Eccentric Spacer is at makerslide.com/

It and my version is for 0.281" 9/32" 7.1mm hole with a M5 bolt.

However you can modify easily for other sizes.

Or printable square tube.

Similar to those used to assemble furniture from the homeware store. Qubelok being one type fairlite.com.au/qubelok.html

There is a zip of the STLs down the bottom of the list.

One-inch or 25.4mm profile as writen, but you can change size via OpenSCAD.

The SCAD has callable modules to model the connectors and the tube profile and a print module to split a part in half and rotate for 3D printing.

Work in progress, probably needs refining.

I'm also working on a hollow version so cables etc can pass through the joins. But no promises.

* aluminum if you don't speak true English ;^}
So I made this adapter to extend the length.

I haven't mounted this yet, but holding it next to my (printing) bot, it is a smidgen longer than the original. You could take a few mm off the length, but it was close enough for me.

The nose needs to be a bit bigger though ;)

Could possibly be used for other Hotends (?)

EDIT Wrong STL - Hang on... fixed!
(Trivia - if you Export as STL before Compiling, OpenSCAD exports the last file you compiled :| )
