Based on ivc's _Spring-loaded Replicator 1 Drive Block_, and coming full circle (more like ellipse) back to the Thing-O-Matic, this is a drive block that uses the Replicator 2 vitamin kit store.makerbot.com/drive-block-hardware-kit.html on the Mk 7 extruder.

**Changes**
* Removed 12mm from bottom to accomodate Mk 7 mounting block
* Changed the lever and base screw hole to accept _Replicator 2_ vitamins
* Changed bearing spindle to work with _Replicator 2_ vitamins
* Mirrored all parts

Why should only hermit crabs wear a shellter?
Now both crabs and people can enjoy Oxystele sinesis "heart" shells!

Create a customized home for your crab, and a stylish necklace or earring for you that reveals where another species lives.

The Customizer is the missing piece to enable a hermit crab caretaker to make the correctly sized shell for a crab. A Sage (http://www.sagemath.org) version has been in development, but when the Customizer was announced, development shifted to this thing.

This is a first version; other versions will be forthcoming.

This MakerSenga - senga is the local Ugandan name for midwife - can be used to diagnose fetal health by a trained practitioner or, paired with the end cap microphone, by anyone with the WinSenga software!

Modeled on the shell of the Oxystele sinensis sea snail, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxystele_sinensis, will Coenobita clypeatus - "Purple Pincher" - hermit crabs like this? Only experimentation will tell!

It was created using Maya's shellNode plugin, which is based upon Cortie's model, and thickened using Blender's Solidify modifier blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-256-beta/solidify-modifier/.

The goal is a workflow using open source tools, but this shell surface required a commercial tool. Thanks to a tip from thingiverse.com/mesheldrake, the conversion to a solid is now handled by an open source tool. :)

Cortie's model and many of its resultant shells have been written in Maple maplesoft.com/applications/view.aspx?SID=3851&view=html. Porting them to an open source tool such as Sage or Blender is the last step in creating a complete open source workflow.

In it was described a 16 parameter mathematical model for synthetic seashells, and parameters for many species of molluscs were thoughtfully provided in the appendix. This is one of them.

Dyn-o-Mite! err... I mean Amm-o-nite!

This proof-of-concept is modeled on the shell of an Ammonite, a prehistoric ancestor of cuttlefish and octopi en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonite.

This is the first shell from which a printable STL was created, and its creation spurred the continued development of Project Shellter.

It was created using the Maya shellNode plugin and thickened using 3DS Max (still looking for an open source thickening solution!).

Not-so-Good News: the shellNode plugin is only available as C++ source code in the Maya SDK.

Good News: AutoDesk, the developer of Maya and 3DS Max, is helping out the 99% with their Educational and Professionals Assistance program. I uploaded shell-012948.stl, the file as exported from Sage, for shell thickening experimentation. It was mirrored from the original exported file because a hermit crab needs a right-handed shell spiral due to the way its abdomen curves.

This is the prototype shell for Project Shellter, the current artist residency at MakerBot Industries.

It is modeled on the shell of the Cittarium pica sea snail, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cittarium_pica, and is similar to the ones that crabs in pet stores typically sport.

It was created using Sage, sagemath.org, exported to an STL using a modified version of Christopher Olah's plugin, trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7744, and thickened in 3DS Max.

The goal is a workflow using open source tools, but the conversion of the surface to a solid at this point requires a commercial tool.
