February 2015 Update!

I've added two additional styles to the keychain generator. Blocky and Round Tag. Enjoy!

I had a 3D printer demo coming up and was looking for some quick customizable models to print. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for so I made one. This is optimized to work with Customizer but also works fine running locally in OpenSCAD. Handy for when you're out and about without a steady internet connection.

Up to 9 keychains can be generated at a time. Each one can fit up to 3 characters. I plan on using it for printing the initials of the demo participants. Each person can leave with a customized keychain!

Print time for one keychain is about 6 minutes. A full plate of nine keychains took 46 minutes on my Replicator 2X. They print out at about 1.5 x .75 inches because they're designed for speedy printing, but should scale well if you want a slightly larger and impressive giveaway.

Open in Customizer:

  1. Pick the number of keychains you would like to print.
  2. Enter up to three characters per keychain.
  3. Print and distribute!

I am fairly new to 3D printing, and was wondering how to customize my one keychain. I am using openscad and am confused on how to customize and use write.scad, and build.scad. Thanks! -Oliver

The easiest way is by clicking "Open In Customizer" on this page and editing it there.

Otherwise you'll need to download the Write.scad library and put in in your OpenSCAD libraries folder.

Thanks for this nice things.

I tried to make one.
But there are some files missing. Please add at least Write.scad and build_plate.scad.
Also the orbitron.dxf font will be missing. This is currently not reported in my scad compile.
But I think, this can easily be replaced with another font, in the case there are licence issues.

Glad you like the design!

Build Plate Library for Customizer

Nice idea, mass customization. Notice some gaps in the top which version of Makerware did you use? I am having the same issue w/ Slic3r and Printrbot.

This was my first print with Makerware 2.2, and a new filament provider...and new firmware. I probably have a bit of dialing in to do ;)
