This was my entry for the Birdhouse Challenge competition http://www.thingiverse.com/challenges/birdhouse - its a home for a millenium falcon

The STL files print a sphere 100mm in diameter. Suggest scaling up to the size you need - the full size is 160km diameter - make sure you cover the thermal exhaust port after printing

There's also a version remixed as a christmas tree ornament here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:117733

Solidworks source files are included - go nuts!

Print out the hemispheres and glue together - use a 5mm ring bolt through the top to hang outdoors.

The laser isn't really meant to be printed - its just for show (but feel free to remix it if you want to print the whole thing)

Got MY vote! XD

Awesome! Your model has been chosen as one of the best 3D Printed Ornaments this year! Search "Top Free 3d Printed Ornaments Printing Ninja" in google to see (sorry thingiverse bans url addresses)

Do you print it flat side down (like a dome) or flat side up (like a bowl)? I'm trying to figure out how to do it so that it does not require supports. Thanks!

Print came out great on my buccaneer 3D printer at 100microns with no added support. Would you consider including the eye hanger in the files? Thanks

Why not include the hanging loop in the print?

So.. cool! but.,. if I want to hang this outside, the rain will get in, without the rain plug.. but then it can't be used as a bird house.. with the plug it makes for a cooler in door ornament. Nice one one. Added to the 'todo'-list :)

Really love the idea to scale down and hang these on Christmas tree. Is there any possibilities to remove the sharp edges that overhang on air at the bottom of the hemispheres? Those make this thing pretty much impossible to print without extra support. Same with the rain plug...

Hi Yzorg - good point.....

I've added a nifty rain cover (just in case, it also doubles as a planet destroying death laser thingy)

its a trap!

no really..
the rain wil get in. if you hang it like this.

That's no moon... it's a birdhouse.

Funny. I heard that the Jovian moon Mimas was called a "death star" because of one large prominent crater on it.
