got me thinking. Scaling is RIDICULOUSLY easy with Blender -- and then printing out the new part is just as easy as the previously sized part. So why not make a part that benefited from this scalability?

So, I was thinking, there are all kinds of bottles out there. And adding a whistle to the top will basically form a resonance chamber of that bottle's note. Can anybody say Jug Band?

I had much the same idea as this but, why not create a screw top replacement for a water bottle cap with a whistle on it, and then create a curved temple for tuning cutting tunning hole. Now, you and turn any Crystal Gyzer water bottle into a penny whistle. ah? ah? Who's with me?

All I can say to the wives/girlfriends is -- Makerbot can make cool stuff for everybody! It's an equal opportunity maker :-P

The wives/girlfriends of every Cupcake owner out there just got a reason to hate you. I just got a reason to wish I had a Cupcake CNC. I believe your concept of scalability/easy customization is huge part of the reason the rapid manufacturing revolution is the future. Keep up the good work!

Instructions

First, download the .stl, and scale it such that the plug diameter will fit your bottle. My spire mountain cider (in a standard beer bottle) needed a .7" plug.

Because the whistle prints best on its side, there will likely be some skuzziness on the plug surface, so you will probably have to cut or file that away.

Then, once it's printed, start tootin!

I love it!
1) It's a musical instrument that isn't practically possible without 3D printing
2) It recycles glass waste
3) It's fun and teaches people a little about how sound works!
