Hey! This thing is still a Work in Progress.
Files, instructions, and other stuff might change!
Quick and Dirty Spool Holder
Description
Spool of Plastic? Check. Milk Crate? Check. Left over smooth rod? Check. Noting to hold it on? Check. Well we can fix that last part I guess.
Instructions
Take a milk crate or milk crate like object (File holders work pretty great too. That's actually what I'm using) and slide a smooth rod like object though the holes. I guess that's really one step that can be broken down into 3 but it's pretty easy.
A side note though, if you have some wax, lubricant, butter, WD-40, lard, margarine, whale blubber, or any other slippery substance, use it to lubricate the smooth rod so your spool will turn nice and easy. You don't want to put too much unnecessary stress on your extruder right?
A note on another side note. Don't put your filament through any of the top holes as I have shown in the photo. It just makes it harder for the extruder to pull.

This is so ridiculous and easy, can't believe I haven't seen something like it before. Is it still working out ok? I love how it keeps everything nice and contained too, less messy looking.
Thanks!
Yeah it actually works pretty darn well. Just make sure you grease up around were the bar meets the spool or print some bushings like this http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...
