Summary

This was intended for use on a quad-rotor project, although it can be mounted on really anything. I used two Hitec HS-55 sub-micro servos and it whips the camera around without any problem. Enjoy!

Instructions

Print out each part and glue them together (this might require a bit of trimming as the tolerances are tight.) The camera mount is supported at one end with a 2-56 x 1/4" machine screw and the other side is supported by the servo horn. The assembly is attached to the base using the servo horn and two servo mounting screws.

Have you tried using FreeCAD?

I had this printed out from Shapeways and it came out very nice. I realize its not meant to be something heavy duty, but I'm concerned about the 'pan' mounting where everything sits on the shaft of the lower servo. The fingers under the edges of the turntable help some of course but I wish there was more support there. Also if this is mounted upside down everything dangles from that servo shaft. Its held together just the one screw, easily stripped out. The 'tilt' is on a servo shaft too, but at least the one side is supported by the structure.

Maybe if the upper turntable could slide into a pair of brackets printed up from the base and sit on that? Then have the servo just turn it all instead of holding it together as well.

The Shapeways version looks just like your picture except that all the surfaces are a perfectly smooth matte finish. No support structures had to be printed or ground/filed off which is very nice. Looks like the current price to have them print it is about $20.

I printed it, but hat problems in slicing the CameraMount.STL, this is the openscad script for a similiar version:
Note that this version ist currently lying on its side, if you want to print it like the original you'd have to rotate the whole thing.

Is there a way to scale this up for a "standard" servo? Considering that standard servos are.... standard... it seems that thingiverse has instead standardized on 9g servos... Why is that?

Hypothetically you could scale it up since the sub-micro has the same W/L ratio (measure to verify), although you would need to change the mount configuration to accommodate the two screw points per side on the "standard" servos. I just measured both servos and the "standard" measures ~20mm x 40mm (a 0.5 W/L ratio) and the sub-micro measures ~11.5mm x 22.75mm (a 0.505 W/L ratio).

Great design and great fit. I'm a little skeptical of the vertical mount for the servo but a couple of small dabs of hot glue will hold it in place on the pan servo for a little extra piece of mind.
