Description

If you are tired of your crappy original Z coupler that came with your Prusa set and/or can not find a solution for it that suit your needs I have adapted the z coupling system from The RobunDel to also fit your Mendel Prusa.

This solution take all the downwards strain that is applied on your z motors away from the stepper shaft and transfer it to the bearing and bearing holder. This way the only job for the Z stepper motor is to make the rotational torque... JUST AS IT SHOULD BE! :-)

The z_bearing_ holder.stl is a derivative from thingiverse.com/thing:9864 THANK YOU SCRIBBLEJ!!!
And the Z_motor_Wobble_ coupling_2_offx2.stl is the top part from thingiverse.com/thing:8675 THANK YOU GregFrost!!

This design also removes wobble in x axis from bended z threaded rods because of the play.
If you feel the coupling is TOO loose you can center it and tighten it a bit with some M3 nuts and bolts but i don't find that necessary.. (but you might) :-)

Instructions

If you already have a Prusa you only need to print 1 of the "Z_motor_Wobble_ coupling_2_offx2.stl" file and 2 of the "z_bearing_ holder.stl" file and use your existing "Z_bar_top_clamp" as it is..

(i found it best to turn the original Prusa Z_motor_mounts upside down for this solution)

For extra "COOLNESS" you print the "Z_bar_top_clamp_rotorit_logo.stl" (as i made for the FRNAKENBOT project ( frankenbot.nl/ ) or maybe the less cool "Z_bar_top_clamp.stl" file.. ;-)

Vitamin's you will need is:

- some nuts that fits your Z threaded rod.
- some M4 screws with nuts for the wobble coupling
- 8X M3 x 80mm screws for your z stepper motors.(Can be bought all over the world "have i heard" ir buy them " Emakershop emakershop.com/browse.php?os=&listing=115
- maybe... just maybe longer z threaded rods...
- 2x 608 bearings

You better make a gap between the wobble coupling and the bearing holder so they don't touch + give room for the desired play to fix the x wobble.

You can use the pictures to help you with the "conversion" or see the video on YouTube youtube.com/watch?v=JLC6pu_ogtM

Enjoy!! :-)

I've got wobble on my Z as well... is this a common problem? I thought I had built it badly.

yes wobble is very common in the z axes and is caused by crocked z threaded rods.

The way of overcoming z wobble is to either make the threaded rod able to wobble freely and absorb the wobble without moving the x axes in other direction other than up and down or, get a straight(er) z threaded rod. I use a stainless threaded rods(because they are usually straighter) on all my z
axes an when i buy them i always roll the rod on the floor to see if it is straight.
Have you seen this BTW? http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... ;)

Well, while I wouldn't call it crappy...

I do like the personalized motor bracket, looks really cool!
