Description

You like ships. You don't seem to be lookin' at the destinations. What you care about is the ships, and mine's the nicest. So here's a Higher resolution model of the Serenity Firefly-class transport ship.

The original uploads had some messed up normals. This should be fixed in the "v5" upload, though I still need to split the file again. *Update 10/10/11* Whole ship and 1plate have been updated to the "V5" model, which slices better. Still need to make the halves which should only take me a non-lazy minute or two, but the original uploads should be considered deprecated, use the V5 versions for better results.

What did you model this in? I am looking to modify the design to allow for a hollow interior, and windows with LEDs...

Has anyone tried printing it as one piece with support?

About how big is the print if printed as-is?

The plate is about 6" long when assembled.

I made another one and printed it in ice blue PLA on my Mendel90.
See the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

I'll download your stuff simply to read the hilarious write-ups.  Nice work!

Thanks!  The compliment means a lot to me since I'm a huge fan of yours.  The Opus Octopod is just incredible... I'd love a copy for myself (nudge nudge wink wink).  Your Banzai Jetcar is awesome too.  Keep on making awesome stuff!

What a cool thing to find. Scaling 1plate V5 up to full build size on the Replicator. This is going to take FOREVER in skeinforge.

Ran overnight, failed. I can't make sense of the error message, and no Gcode was written out.

Where did the original model come from? It looks like there are a huge number of unnecessary internal details (tables, chairs, pistons, rooms, etc) which could be easily removed if the original file were to be had. Thanks.

SERENITY-5 works nicely. I chopped it in two and did a Netfabb cloud fix to stop Netfabb complaining about holes. the previous versions crashed my machine.

Haha, this might be too detailed to shrink to key-ring size...

Could you upload a version that has the pin/connectors? It would be awesome to be able to print this in parts and just snap it together!

http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...

I've been wanting to figure out how to mashup parts to snap together for a while (I still have a dozen or so failed attempts at making ED-209 into an articulated action figure around here somewhere) but my OpenSCAD is weak and manually done parts never line up for me properly.

If you see a good OpenSCAD tutorial point me in that direction!

Much better looking than the old one. Can you cut it in half through the engines and stand it up so it can print in one go?

Sure... Done as 2 parts for one large model and as a single sheet 1-print. Neither will print quickly, and there are orphaned bits of solar collectors left over from the split.
