Summary

A printable crab and or nut cracker. There never seem to be enough at parties with crab. (yum!)

Although I have not personally printed this, I am told the joint works great!

Edit: I have reduced the plastic required to print this, increased the gap between sliding parts, and better commented the code.

Instructions

Print with a dense infill and start cracking. By default the part has 0.6mm between sliding parts, so your printer needs to be calibrated.

Is this possible with a printrbot jr?

Col design! This is exactly what i need to intimidating crabs!

The joint is amazing, great work! Printing moving parts fully assembled is fun. The default file (cracker.stl) works for wallnuts, but it's not ergonomic. The last few nobs hold them tight, but I wish I had edited the .scad to move the bars further appart. Next wish would be a more fancy grip :-)

Roughly how much does the finished product weigh?

This works, and works great! I printed one at 35% infill (honeycomb) and one at 20% infill (honeycomb) and both worked great on a real crab dinner!

What an amazing working joint! I think joints like the one you made could be applied in a lot of great objects!

My wife demanded I print this, because she had crab in the freezer and no crab crackers in the house.

This is a real world example of how/why machines like RepRap 3Dprinters will soon be inside every home in the "civilized" world.

I am printing WAY TOO MANY of these.

Epic design. Print fail for me; the joint didn't move and the connector broke when I tried to part the parts for cracking purposes.

Thus indicates my print pipeline needs the application of the tune wrench.

I increased the gap in the joint, so it is less likely to fuse.

Thats too bad. I would check to see if you are putting out too much filament, and or widen the gap in the joints. I added comments so you know which variable to change. I can upload a stl with a wider gap if you don't want to mess with openscad.

This Thing is super freaking awesome, I've never printed a functional joint in one go before.
