Basic Whistle by hoeken Nov 2, 2009

Description

I'm a big fan of the original whistle design, and the ability to print the interior ball and handler is nice. However, I'm an even bigger fan of minimalism. So, I took out the extra parts and here we have the most basic part: just a whistle.

Note: its not 100% manifold, but skeinforge handles it just fine.

I built a 1cm scaled version of http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... and dropped it in during build. Much cleaner than bulding them together, even if it is cheating. My skeinforge settings left most of the strings in the mouth of the whistle where it was actally possible to clean them up mostly, rather than the body and around the ball, where it's quite difficult.

yeah, you need to have your parameters tuned just right to get a nice solid model though. when you do, its very loud.

Dumb question: do your whistles actually whistle? I've made two of these that look pretty good but don't make a whistling noise.

oh... there's usually a bit of cleanup. i always keep a scraper, an xacto knife, and a file next to my bot for post-printing cleanups.

also, this whistle doesnt have the interior ball or handle so there are much fewer strings.

I wonder about the sizes to make it whistle... Could we make a printed flute?

Definitely, you could base it off of plans like this one for a PVC pipe flute http://www.markshep.com/flute/...
