Another spool holder that mounts horizontally (why fight gravity?). This ones fits my UltiMachine 5lb spool, which has a 39mm (1.5 inches) diameter hole. The OpenSCAD file is parametric in case it needs to be adapted for different spool types.

The STL file is unnecessarily large because I set the OpenSCAD accuracy parameter ($fn) stupidly high. Feel free to re-render using $fn = 60 for a smaller STL file.

The base includes some hollow hemispheres that could hold something sticky like rubber or sticky-tac in case it starts to wander. It also makes it look a super-cool moon base.

No lubricant was required, but that may depend a bit on the spool plastic type and the printer plastic type (PLA in this case).

Great work! This holder is one of my two favorites, and the one I keep extras around of, just in case I meet someone just getting started without a spool holder!

I just designed a simple adapter for spools with a larger center hole, which might help others with the same kind of varying spools I get - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:853653

This worked great! Very little friction with Blue PLA.
