This is the shape of a rhombic dodecahedron divided into four identical pieces in an unintuitive way. Luckily you don't need to be familiar with the final shape: when you discover how to fit the pieces together they will converge into a rhombic dodecahedron.

Build four identical copies of the STL file, then try to assemble them.

What filament are you using?

Made with my TOM, MK7, MakerGear clear PLA with raftless support. No cleanup required and it fit together perfectly, with plenty of friction to hold the pieces in place securely.

Super cool! I want to make one as a jewelry piece. Would love to know how you figure where to make the cut to get all the pieces the same! What modeling software are you working in?

This is embarrassing. I had originally created the model in Alibre, but it kept exporting defective STL so I gave up...and forgot to save. Then I wrote an OpenSCAD script which generated good STL data, but I forgot to save it too!

I've re-created the OpenSCAD script as close as I can get it, along with "spiral.dxf" which is necessary for the extrusion used in the script. Sorry it's a bit sloppy, but it does generate a valid Rhombic Dodecahedron in four identical parts.

Thanks! Any chance for a step. I am a bit clue less in OpenScad I am from a surface and solid modeling background. My coding is a bit limited. I attached an image of what I am looking to do. I really want to turn the puzzle into a pendent that functions as the closer of the chain as well. I don't know if can be done but I want to add pins off the pieces to join a chain. Is this do able? Don't know if I can do it and keep all the parts the same. It would make a great piece of jewelry if it can be done!

I don't have any CAD representations of the rhombic shape, but I've attached an earlier revision as "raw quad.stp" which is a four-part-sphere. (You can substitute any shape that has 4-way rotational symmetry for the sphere.) Unfortunately the parts were a bit loose in that revision, which can be fixed by slightly reducing the length of the sketch used in the helical cut.
