Description

"Plumber's Pipe" v.0.1
Based on the invention of Mark Shepard (http://www.markshep.com/flute/Pipe.html)
It’s in the key of G and plays two full octaves.

Well, does it? I don't know. Mark's original version is made with PVC tubing and sounds all right. I've tried to recreate his dimensions using openSCAD in order to learn how to use that tool (so far, so good).

Note: Sadly, discovered that the .scad file was not the version I thought I had. openSCAD saves using F2, not Ctrl-S. A painful lesson. .scad file removed.

I found a site with excellent details and dimensions for whistles:
http://guido.gonzato.googlepag...

I was thinking to make the fipple for end blown whistle an making the body out of PVC. So you would end up with a slightly tunable two piece whistle.I think I could maybe get ideas from the regular whistle that people are printing and making.

It looks like a fipple pipe could be more easily done with a lathe and a drill. I'll have to see what file format is required for automated lathes.

I would hope that someone can take this and polish it up into something worth printing. It should also be relatively easy to parameterize size, but I don't know enough about the proper proportions to make sure it works out properly. In fact, I don't even know if this will make music.

Hey, also, make sure to Compile and Render (CGAL) prior to exporting as STL :)

I don't have a 3D printer yet, I would love to see one of these. I thought about using the Reprap/Makerbot to make fipples. I want to know if this works.

Thanks
