PTFE Retainer Part

PTFE Retainer Part by Curlrup Dec 1, 2009

Description

Want to use the Makerbot thermal barrier, heated barrel, and nozzle on a RepRap 2.0 pinchwheel extruder but don't know how you are going to keep the thermal barrier from slipping out of the extruder base without using a large washer and long cap screws to hold it all in place? Use this fancy retainer part. It is shelled out and totally encases the thermal barrier preventing it from moving, and bulging. I printed mine from Polycarb on an FDM Titan. See the pics. This is in addition to gluing in the PTFE. Mechanical attachment along with glue.

Not sure if it will but I would say PC is a good start. I will have ULTEM capability soon at work so that might be the next round on this part.

Won't PC, ABS or PC/ABS become too soft and exhibit mechanical creep?

Please keep us informed how they compare! Are they expensive? If they're good, maybe Stratasys can earn money from the nozzles or any other specialty component that they've become good at producing ;)

Oh yeah heads up the nozzle/tip shown in the pics is from an FDM Quantum. It is a T16 tip and threads right on the Makerbot barrel. So I will be using the FDM tip on my RepRap when done. :-D

The barrel is held in place by glue. Read the Thermoplast 2 assembly guide. You would've seen that if you had.

This also helps eliminate the PTFE from bulging overtime since it is reinforced by a .100" polycarb wall.

Right glue which can fail over time especially when glued to PTFE. This is in addition to glue. Simple engineering dear boy.
