Description

If your like me you may have jumped in pretty hard right off the bat with additional MBI products such as the filament spindle boxes. After running a few 2 pound spools through them on kitchen turn tables (lazy Susans, sorry to any Susan's reading this) it started to become a large pain de-stacking my bot and top spindle box just to get to the bottom box for a change out. So I just wanted to jot down a few notes as I rigged my setup for quicker filament change outs as well as adapting the boxes for different filament vendor spools and sizes.

Instructions

Here is a list of cheap tricks I pulled to make horizontal spool life easier:

Remove 4 top tabs from acrylic front door

Remove 2 left side tabs from acrylic front door

Remove 2 right side tabs from acrylic front door

Remove and store the 2 lower M3 bolts from acrylic front door

Take the 2 top bolts, wind a nut 1/3 the way up on each bolt, insert them through the top of the acrylic front door (see pics) and then add a nut to the backside of the acrylic door and tighten the nuts against each other

Slot the acrylic door in the bottom 4 tab slots and use the protruding top bolts (now handles) to close the door

For rigidity insert the 2 side bolts as door locks

** Additional Options **

Try my spool plate and adapter to widen your spindle box filament spool options: thingiverse.com/thing:13755

Slap an additional two MBI 2 pound spool holders on your bot using: thingiverse.com/thing:7105 (I have 2 spindle boxes so I mounted them on my top box (see pics))

Don't forget some spool guards, there are lots to choose from but these clear the MBI spindle box internals pretty nice: thingiverse.com/thing:6952

Mega happy horizontal filament spooling to all!
