Nerdy Tea Infuser

Description

Voltage regulated tea :)

I couldn't get the typical tea infuser holes to print nicely (too small), so I used a different approach: a large hole on the back covered by a grid that lets the water in and out while keeping the tea leaves inside.

As a solid, ABS poses no danger. I'm no expert, but these chemicals are probably stable because they are part of the plastic matrix. I would think a certain temperature needs to be achieved to release the hazardous chemicals. Clearly, more research needs to be done, but I think it's safe in hot water. On the other hand, I would definitely try to vent the fumes when priniting.

YESSS!!!! Win! Printing as soon as my Prusa works :).Although this will need ABS.

HDPE works fine, milk-jug plastic.

I printed this on a Repman and ended up with a loose fit. I shoved some raft in there and hit it with a lighter, problem solved!

I like this! I'll see if I can print it in HDPE or polypropylene. ;-)

Neat idea, but is it safe? putting plastic in 90 degree water? Just concerned if you actually try to use it, it may release toxins in your tea. non?

Well, I'm not 100% sure about this, but I did look it up beforehand and not only I didn't find any warnings regarding the use of abs with hot water, but also found some products (such as tea mugs and jars) made out of abs plastic...

I've been waiting for someone to use a grid in an application like this. Very cool design.
