Description

this is still a work in progress, it has none of the mounting holes established yet but i wanted to share the idea so anyone else that was thinking on it could contribute.
this current object is more to fabricate the drive shaft without the need for a lathe or mill.
I got the general idea from the side tapped drive pulley's.

yes, its actualy designed to be side tapped twice. The large hole tapped at 8mm which you run a long 8mm bolt or piece of threaded rod through. My plan has been to drill out the end of the bolt/rod to 5mm and put some set screws through it for attaching to the stepper which mounts on top. this is still very much a work in progress since the first pair of shafts i made out of brass and over tapped the 3mm side so i cant get enough pinch on the filiment. Then i made a second set out of aluminum but im having issues with tapping out the 8mm holes in those. My intention was to design this so it didnt need a lathe to do the side taps by placing both pinch shafts in the printed parts and tapping both shafts and both holes in the part its self. I can see that the idea will work but its going to take some more work to get the details on implementation.

If I understand the design correctly there would be two side tapped pulleys either side of the filament. It there a then a gear mechanisim to provide drive to both wheels in opposing directions, from a single gearmotor/stepper?

ok, just so people understand the first file is the blank template that the rest of the variations were created from. I still dont know if this will be functional or not or how its going to be mounted in the bot but it should be enough that people can try it and see.

Instructions

print the object and slide a 608 bearing in the two slots on the left side (small hole).
from this point you can either put in a 8mm shaft through to the large hole side or if you have the ability to make solid shaft blank it should be 8mm turned ends 22mm dia center that is

well, ive tried to change the rotation on this so the view would be easyer to understand but no joy, any time i rotate it so the top is facing to the camera in any way it fails to render the view.

well, the orientation isnt what i want for printing but if you dl it you should be able to see what its supposed to be.
