LED Lightbar by rmadams Dec 16, 2009

Description

This is a device that you can make to light up the inside of your MakerBot. By using some LEDs, a couple resistors and the MakerBot power supply, you can give your MakerBot that cool glowing interior. It is designed to snap into the slots on the top of the MakerBot, and be wired to the 12V line of the MakerBot power supply using unused HDD connectors. It is easy to print up a pair and give it a try!

Instructions

1. Print a pair of Lightbars, using the attached STL file. It is very forgiving, and can be printed at about any fill density and will still work.

2. LEDs are inserted into the Lightbar. They should be a snug fit, if you use 5mm LEDs like I did. I got mine from All Electronics: allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/LED-127/ULTRABRIGHT-WHITE-LED-5MM-15-DEG/1.html

3. Solder the LEDs together. How exactly you do this will depend on the exact specifications that you use. Check out this flickr.com photoset for some more details: flickr.com/photos/42433826@N00/sets/72157622993771738/

4. Add a plug to attach the Lightbars to your MakerBot power supply - if you do it the way I did, you use the 12V line. That way when you power up your machine, it lights up the interior, too.

5. Enjoy!
