Description
This spool stand uses aluminum stock instead of wood. Plain old 1/4" aluminum stock is cheap. I also coated the bottom of the feet with Sugru for anti-slip purposes.
Instructions
Print two of each
Cut aluminum to size (mine are identical to the original)
assemble
coat feet with Sugru
profit

I made something very similar to this (but for left over 8mm rod). One refinement compared to your model is a piece for the lower front rod that the filament can run through. That serves as an endstop for the filament tube and you can clip a cleaning sponge behind it.
That's a great idea. I'm considering some PTFE tubing for this as well. I never thought to route it as you suggest.
