Description

Very small parts print better with a little bit of cooling to stop them overheating and melting. I designed a simple bracket to fix the spare fan from my Huxley kit onto the existing bolt on the X-axis idler.

Instructions

1. Print the part nice and strong. I used 3 perimeters, 3 base layers and 50% infill. The two vertical lugs needed some additional cooling (now, if only I had a mounted cooling fan).
2. Attach the fan to the mount using standard M3 nuts and bolts.
3. Replace the M3 bolt through the X-axis idler pulley with a slightly longer one, 25 mm should be plenty.
4. Fix the mount to the X idler at a slight downward angle.
5. Add a switch to the power supply so that the fan is only on when it is needed.

I just wanted to say thanks for this - elegantly simple, but it makes a massive difference. Really ought to be included in the stock Huxley build, IMO.

your the man Rich! thanks for the awesome upgrade. Slic3r is controling the fan nicley for me :)

I like this design, what size is the fan? It looks very small, is it a 50x50 one, or even smaller?

Sorry, I should have stated.

The original eMaker Huxley kits included a second 40 x 40 mm fan. I wasn't using mine to cool the electronics, so I decided to use it as a part cooler.
