Description
This is the extruder used on Aluminum Mendel thingiverse.com/thing:16076. It combines the features of its ancestors that I liked best. It provides more internal filament support than the standard body for less filament buckling. Changeover is very fast.
Instructions
All items will print without support except the cam. Print body and idler mount in ABS, PLA won't take the heat. I added heat sinks because the X carriage is very narrow in this design without much area to dissipate heat . They are not totally necessary, but do help when using high extruder temperatures.

Really awesome design!! Any chance you could post the source files or a 3mm version?

I uploaded a 3mm version of the body. I simply moved the hot end recess and filament hole over .6 mm so that the edge of the filament is tangent to the drive gear and increased the filament guide to 3.2 mm diameter. I also included the source file, which is an Autodesk Inventor file. I would be glad to make any tweaks if necessary, I have never worked with 3 mm.

dkennell,
I am building one with your design. It make seen to me over the lousy BotMill I started with.
I would love some more pictures such as a view from the bottom and back view similar to the one already published.
How fast can your design run? Jeff Moe told me they are now running at 200mm on a Mendel Max.
DXF files would also be great as I use AutoCad 3D modeling.
Thanks for sharing this design

The ipt files at the bottom of the downloads are Inventor files. If you can't open them, I can try exporting another file format. I have been focusing on high print quality and have not tried to run any faster than the 30mm setting. I will get some more info posted soon.
