Hey! This thing is still a Work in Progress.
Files, instructions, and other stuff might change!
Craft Cutter Blade Holder
Description
This tool holder will mount in place on the Z platform in place of the extruder allowing you to cut shapes out of paper vinyl or other thin material without much effort. It does require a very level bed and I recommend cutting on a cut down cutting mat.
This was designed to hold a leading brand craft cutter's blade holder.

Instructions
1) Print
2) Assemble (2x 8-32 flat head and 2x 8-32 nut required
(sorry but I have a big bag of 8-32 screws and nuts and want to use them)
Use Thing-o-Matic Gcode Inkscape Plugin to generate G-code - be careful to not crash the tool into you build platform. thingiverse.com/thing:16424
** UPDATE ** I removed the original design and uploaded a beefier one. This one doesn't rock on my machine and with a sharp blade it can cut nicely. I tried it out on the Hack-A-Day logo as a proof of concept. It works good.
Needed Parts:
2x 8-32 flat head machine screw and nut
Cutting mat or similar adhesive surface
Cutting tool holder and ***sharp*** cutting blade. If the blade is dull the paper will tear.
I haven't tried anything heavier than printer paper in it but I would guess it wouldn't be a problem to cut craft paper or vinyl so long as the blade sharp.

i made my own variation of this for the quickfit xcarriage for a prusa. surprisingly is a lot less forgiving than a filament extruder. the height needs to be perfect or you dig into the mat or miss the paper - you basically have less than one paper heights worth of error!
i'm going to keep tweaking but this was not a quick drop in project as I'd originally hoped.
Agreed. It relies on a bed that's been dialed in with a caliper. The design of the paper cutting machines like Cricut are such that they only move the cutter along one axis and that axis is parallel to the rods it moves on. However with a really level bed (perhaps glass would work great too), it is possible to do. The other thing that held is if your bed is adjustable and mounted on springs so it has a little give - then you can press a little harder without ripping up the paper.
