Summary

this is a matching Owl to the first Owl statue. It is a mirror image facing left. (the owls left)

I just uploaded a new cleaner version of the statue. Should print better.

Instructions

Print out this Owl and the first Owl statue to have a pair of Owls facing in different directions. No home should be left unprotected. With a pair of owls, one on each side of your door for instance, your house will be fully protected from crows, bats, pigeons, and vermin of all kinds. Owls are time-tested natural preditors of such pests and will scare them away even in plastic form. So don't wait! Print them out today and protect your house!

Excellent model. I printed it with PLA on a WANHAO i3 V2 with an extraordinary outcome, very detailed. At 60 mm/s. Got some issues at the eyes and the mouth but nothing really bad. :D

Which printer are you using I want quality over speed and I don't have a thousand dollars, what do you recommend, I'm new in all of this 3d printers thing...

Printed great on my Printrbot simple metal for 7 hrs then nozzle hit model and knocked it lose with 4 minutes to go. Any ideas how to fix?

A funny hat for his little flat head?

I did this model of the owl in Maya. I wouldn't suggest that you learn Maya just to do 3d printing. I've been modeling in Maya for years. I do most of my work for film and television.

This character is Awesome! Which CAD software did you use to draw this?

A little more on the beak. It doesn't have a curve at bottom of beak, like in your picture. Instead, it's replaced by micro droplets of PLA. I see my notch should be a hole (nose). The very tip of the beak seems not long enough. I guess my Printrbot Simple just glitched at the beak moments of the G-code. But, it seems no where else I see an error in printing. If I print another one, could I change some option to keep this from happening? Maybe, because I went half scale, it happened? Thanks

for Printrbot Simple it is ok to change maxumum Z to 110mm instead of default 100 (it's actual volume surely 100x100x110). This way you'll able to print the owl up to 74% of scale

The original owl statue is facing Right. Owl statue facing left is just a mirror image of the original owl statue which was facing right. I am glad you all like the Owl statue!!

How about an Owl Facing Right! The print went perfect except the beak. I see a little notch about a 1/3 of the way down. Should the beak have hook curving inward? The eyes and ears look super! Overall quality great! Using Simple 2014 for less than a month. Only change, reduced to half size. Biggest model so far.

Unable to print it with Simplify3D, it seems to be big and makes my printer stalls

Can anyone tell me the settings they used like infill percent and number of shells ? I'm a real noob here.

my first proper print, it came out great! I did have a bit of trouble getting it off the build plate tho

I chose this design to be my first project. Will keep you updated.

do i need support for this? the nose came out very bad. i will post a pic. (it is white and was printed on the robo 3d) :)

No, support is not needed. The nose has a nice slope so it should print fine. Maybe your temperature settings are not optimal?

Just to let you know (and for attribution!), I printed it with wood for my review at http://betterprinter.blogspot.fr/2012/10/shades-of-brown-with-wood-filament-via.htmlhttp://betterprinter.blogspot...., hope you'll like it!
By the way how did you modeled the feathers? Amazing :)

That wood grain looks amazing.   Very cool technique. The model was all done in Maya.
Cheers -tom

I need one of these :)

Wife has miniature owl collection - I'd like to print a couple half sized ones. Can you provide scaled down versions in .stl? ;)

if you use slic3r you can just scale it down in the settings before you slice it. im printing a half size one right now.

This is great! It reminds me of diedricksen's tiki voodo owl. =-X

Print both of the Owls out and make a Tiki garden
