Description

This is a led ring light I build specifically for my Panasonic HDC-SD 909.
It is a ring of bright leds which surround the camera lens. The inner diameter of it is 7cm the outer diameter is 12cm. The distance to the camera mount is 6 cm. If your camera more or less fits those numbers (+-0,5 cm) you can print it as it is. Otherwise it is easily adjustable. It comes with a build in battery housing, designed by Obijuan.

48 leds are needed.

Instructions

You need to get at least 48 led. In my case I used leds with 3V each.

Print out both parts. First take the led ring and put in the leds. Then solder pairs of leds (2 leds in a row) together. Then solder all led pairs parallel to each other (take a look at the picture to see how I have connected them. Then connect them to 4 batteries (AAA or AA) which need to be connected in a row. This makes 2 leds * 3V = 4 batteries * 1,5V. If you are not sure about the connections order some more leds and play around a bit.

Finally screw the two parts together with a small screw, using the printed hole at the connection.

Mount your Camera and have fun!

(I spend 7€ for the printing material and 11€ on Leds which means the project cost me 18€.. compare that to the prices of professional ones!! (starting at 150€))

Any test shots?

I don't have any to upload right now, but its like having a big flashlight attached to your camera. The model is fine as it is, but if you have the knowledge I would recommend to put the LEDs at an increased angle towards the outer ring so the light cone becomes bigger. It is fine for my normal camera, but if I attach a fisheye there is only a big light circle in the middle and its dark towards the image edges so there some improvement would be possible
