Description

A Gyroid intersected with a Polar Zonohedron, plus some organic touch to create this beautiful Lamp Shade.

At the center of the base i drilled a hole all the way up the center of the shade where you insert a tube with a LED - up to 3 Watts.
(If you 3D Print it with Polymide/White Nylon at i.materialise.com or ponoko.com)

However if you 3D print it with ABS then you can experiment with more powerful LED/s.

The base is 2.5mm high.
Model's wall thickness: >1.6mm

This printed in about 12 hours on my Replicator.
I scaled the original by about 75% to get this to fit into my build area.

FIll: 10%
Layer: 0.27
SHells: 3
I juiced the feedrates by one or two for each.
I used no supports on the first build, and turned them on for the second.
There's a few drippy curls without the supports, and I think it looks better overall with them.
Overall this is a beautiful model, and thanks to Dizingof for posting.

The ONLY way?

Unless you enjoy spending hours on cleaning support structures...

Soluble support is the way to go... the next step for quality prints.

Hi! Dizingof!

Thanks for your beautiful model!

I've tried to print the model with my UP Printer.

I spent the time of 24hr prinitng and over 1hr removing supports

I used clear ABS filament for printing.

And I'm trying to glow the light in the middle of the shade.

It was really great!

Thanks again!

:)

Awesome print !

I just wanted to say thank you for such a cool design. If I knew what software you were using and how to tweak this slightly, I may have been able to get a perfect print. It's just barely un-achievable on my bot currently. I also only used external support, so that explains a lot of the little strings, and I printed from USB for over 7.5 hours while retouching photos. ;) Still, it turned out great. Thanks!

I am still waiting for someone to finally use soluble material or PLA for support structures.

This is the ONLY way to get high quality prints and move the thingiverse community to the next level.

And please no photo retouching :)
