Description

I used a servo that I had laying around that was modified for continuous rotation to motorize the gear heart. It works of 6v dc.

Instructions

This is a work in progress. I plan on designing a better base and servo mount and printing them.

- I drilled the hole in the base all they way through the bottom.
- I then glued a 1/4" diameter rod to the heart center and ran it through the heart base.
- I glued the heart base to the heart stand and glued the heart stand to a piece of wood. Which I had already drilled a hole in for the drive rod.
- I attached a gear to the drive rod that matched the gear on that I had on the servo.
- Mounted the servo to the piece of wood, making sure to match up the gears for smooth rotation.
- Added power and watched it spin. I need make the speed variable.

I'm thinking of making a hand-crank version as well.

Looks pretty cool, but it sounds like you've got some pretty serious gear slippage going on! That could however be fixed by lowering the speed and letting it wear in for a while.

I love the idea of using a servo, since that means you have native speed control, which is awesome!
