What settings did you use to print this? I printed one and like others mine makes no sound, though it seems reasonably airtight. It certainly doesn't leak enough to prevent the whistle from functioning...
Print with 3 solid surface layers, 2 extra shells on alternatingsurface layers, and be sure your flow rate and line spacing is set properly. I use 1.5 for line spacing (infill width over thickness) If there is even the tiniest of gaps between the lines on the solid surface layers, it won't work. Also I use a .3 for infill perimeter overlap.
You may simply try increasing your flow rate a tad as it sounds like maybe you are slightly usingg too little plastic.
The easiest thing to do is drop some acetone (finger nail polish remover) onto the solid surfaces. It will melt the plastic and make the surfaces air tight.
I just love the way that children 'want to make' something. I have a 7 and a 9 year old, and they want to make heaps of stuff... which translates to "they want dad to design and make heaps of stuff". :-D
yes i'll try printing again after a few calibration tests... i had some stringing inside the whistle ..not sure if it might have contributed to it making no sound..
Here you can see the whistle printed and blown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... :) It works great!
Was this a belated April's fool? It printed perfectly, but no sound?
I assure you the whistle works just fine. However, if you don't have your fill set right and there are small spaces between your layers of plastic, air will leak through the sides and the whistle won't work. I suggest placing a few drops of acetone on the outer surfaces to seal them up or change your fill settings so there is an air tight surface.
I printed the whistle and it turned out great :) I was a little worried about the bridging that would be done to seal up each hollow space, but It worked out great.
I loved the green color you used, so I followed up with Faberdashery village green. I had 10 meters of the stuff from a rainbow pack I bought. The stuff is expensive, but I will admit, it really seemed to help the quality of the print.
I am starting to run out a filament... Now I need to decide
if I should buy a heaping ton of cheap filament from China, or a handful of high quality filament from Faberdashery...
Dang! Third to last layer and it came off the building platform.. :'(
Awesome!
This is great... I'm still waiting for someone to upload some DTMF whistles, so we can have Bluebox Panpipes. :)
It looks very interesting, with a complicated internal geometry.
What software did you use to design it?
How about posting the design file.
