Description

A modular case for the raspberry pi, print a top and bottom to suit whatever you want to mount your pi to, and whatever top you want so you can cover/see your pi.

The four sides join to form hinges - this makes it easy to bolt them all into a line of four, fold it around the pi, then fix. I experimented with supporting the pcb from above and below, but this design causes the pcb to flex far far less.

Instructions

Print the four sides, then print whatever top and bottom you want to fit (i'll upload these soon if i haven't). Use 4 m3 bolts to secure everything (I used cable ties in the photos because I didn't have 4 bolts long enough.

Hi James,

Just finished my case. I chose yours after much research because it was still possible to show people the Pi, with the open top. I printed another "base" for when I want to enclose it, later.

But (a small one) I did have to file down the bottom of the hole for the USB connectors. There is a protr
uding white piece of plastic on my production board. And I also found the hole around the video connector to be slightly misaligned (could be my video connector is misaligned) but not by so much it mattered.

Anyhow. It's really good. :)

And I will get some nice bolts soon. Black, hopefully.

nice print :) I haven't had the problem with those two ports, but thanks for letting me know, i'll be sure to enlarge the hole slightly for the cases I sell as there is obviously more variation than I had thought.

Just noticed the av3 part is designed with support, of course i plated and clicked print before noticing the printing in mid air...will get use it as is for the moment and re-print that part after i get the board in it, having an unprotected board like this bothers me.

It doesn't need support, you can just use a knife to clean up the hole. It's on the inside of the case, so you can't see if it's a little messy.

I'm selling these on ebay, so if anyone wants one let me know.

Had to make one, guess what color?

Thanks for posting this James.

Now if Element14 would get in gear and send me the board I'd be SET!!

Well, I'm just going to have to purchase those colours then... Hope you get your pi soon :)

If anyone wants to add bases/lids or tweak this, I've created a repo at:

The scad file is fairly horrible, with just differently commented out sections to generate whichever side you want, if this thing is popular I'll make a proper parametric scad at some point.
